Disassembling a Eureka 5071 Self Propelled Vacuum

Hi I need to partially disassemble a Eureka 5071 so that I don't get charged crazy money for shipping it.

I have the bolts out of the handle but the cable for the self propel prevents me from pulling the handle apart.

Does anyone have any experience disassembling this vacuum partially? I want the person I'm sending it to, to only need to put in a few bolts. Can't be too much of a tear down

Hmm. I have no idea, but the diagram makes it look fairly simple. Are you sure it's the cable holding the handle together? The diagram isn't perfectly clear, but if I had to guess, I'd say the cable should lock into the bottom half of the handle.

Yeah I'm sure its the cable. Runs all the way up the handle and I can feel it pulling when I try to lift the handle. Someone on reddit says I need to just disconnect the cable under the hood

Oh yeah that's the control cable for the power drive, someone here had an issue with theirs breaking last month. It does connect under the hood somewhere near the lightbulb.

Among vacs that were shipped from factory in one piece I think you will find the Westinghouse One Stroke,self propelled Hoover Dial-A-Matic & Concept & Dimension AND self propelled Eurekas.Great vac but NOT meant to be taken apart.

I don;t know if this helps you any, but all the vacuums I have bought on eBay, never were disassembled for shipping. You need a big box, yes, but it shouldn't be too much - about $30-$40. Ship UPS for those kinds of things, they have cheaper rates for heavier awkward boxes.

The farther away they live from you the more expensive it will be, that is a fact of shipping anything, but the dimensions of the box don't have too much impact on the price unless it gets to be over 72" or something combined length and girth. It's mainly the weight that you are paying for.
