I know that a replacement brush roll is not expensive, but I hate to toss a roll with good bristles just because the bearings need a clean/lube.

I was wondering if anyone has attempted to remove the metal end caps to access the bearings for cleaning and lubrication?

I would think they're just pressed on somehow and could be pried off, but I wanted to get a little more insight before I risk damaging something. Of course, it's possible they're glued on or the part that's pressed into the wood has a one-way barbed feature that will shred the wood if removed. Does anyone on this forum know if/how they come apart?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah!

The end caps do come off, it's not just an end cap actually. The bearing is in the end cap, and a stick comes out of it and is pressed into the wood bar. They do come out though, it's what I do. You just put one side in a vice, and yank up on the bar and if you pull hard enough the end cap will be in the vice and the brushroll will not.

Are they still available?

I thought the brush roll for the Royal Prince and 103 Dirt Devil are no longer available. I see used ones sell on eBay from time to time.
