Did an actress really get Hoover to color the Model 33 Convertible lavender?

Hi. There is a Model 33 Convertible Special on ebay right now. The ad says that the actress Agnes Moorhead (best known from Bewitched) commissioned the color by requesting it from Hoover. I have never heard this and suspect it. Does anyone know anything about this?

Googling "Agnes Moorhead" and "Hoover" the answers lead right back to here. Fascinating stuff. Makes me wonder if the person selling it is a member here, or they found it in the Google.

So yes, this was made for Agnes Moorhead as her family was good friends with Hoover. They decided to make a vacuum for her in honor of her being an actress. They are quiet rare, I would love one for my self. I did see the eBay post and I’d say this is a little overpriced

The 33 is not really rare when it comes to Convertibles. I've seen 3 on ebay this month. The 32 in coral is much harder to find, especially with the original bag.

contrary to popular mis belief

no the 33 was and never had ANYTHING to do with Agnes Moorehead. my spring issue of 1965 hoover worldwide had an interview with Faber Birren, the colorist hoover hired for the color schemes on thier appliances starting in 1956. Faber suggested the color for 33 even though he detested the color. they sold almost 500,000 units.

Tom (anderson),has all that info. It was a myth that became legend. The hoover books have that proof. Agnes may have been friends with the family members. ThT story was fueled by a for.er member.... long story .I may have an extra to sell..... once I get some machines sorted out.

Of course, now, we all know about Agnes .... it's an entertaining myth. There is printed documentation about the real dates, info, etc. Agnes had nothing to do with it. We all bought into it..... until the proof became clear.

True, not my favorite color. But, the story goes on, often fueled by those who won't let it go. They aren't even. Able to post Nything in here, text or pics. Other are used to do it for them. I feel, if you collect hoover, it's one you want... for history and even the silly legend.

The 33 that is on eBay right now is located in the panhandle of Oklahoma . I've had at least three. I'm not terribly found of the color. But still a well-built Hoover!
