Could Laptops Be Taken Off The Market Years From Now

Okay, I'm sorry if I didn't post anything on the site for 2-3 months. I'm just saying, are latops getting replaced by tablet computers years from now?

Nope, there's room and need for all types of computers including the formats not yet introduced.  Personal choice comes down to how much screen real estate you want, around the house, on the road or at the coffee shop.


 


Frankly, smartphones are fine for quick squinty checks, tablets are a fine compromise between portability and large enough to read text, I take my 17" Macbook Pro on the road for motel entertainment and emails, I love my desktop, keyboard & chair with its 24" flatscreen for morning coffee, editing photos and composing posts like this with grammatical & spellicheck accuracy but best of all is lounging on the comfy couch viewing on the 55" widescreen with a bluetooth feed from the Blackberry Playbook for movies and online documentaries.

My guess is that products like the Microsoft Surface Pro and desktops will come to rule the market. A full desktop OS on a tablet is really more than average consumer needs, they just need to include some sort of real peripherals. I personally prefer a tablet to a laptop anyway, since anything serious like typing or storing files is done on my desktop, and a tablet is extremely mobile and turns on almost instantly. 


 


Professionals and prosumers will always have a desktop, those who need that type of hardware on the go will always have laptops, but the average consumer will have a tablet. I fear the transition to cloud storage, but otherwise I welcome development. Google Glass is pretty scary though....

I really think they may replace a laptop someday. Most of the new tablets, I Pads can do everything a laptop can do with portability.

We have had people use the I Pad for sermons at church. Rather than carry paper, they just use the I Pad.

In two of my meetings at church the I Pad is used for taking minutes as well.

Personally, I like having the desk top I-Mac, when working on projects it just seems more natural to me...LOL

I doubt it. Tablets and phones are all good, but touchscreen text entry isn't as good as a proper keyboard

However I do think that motion is the way forward, look at the recent influx of smart TV's, Xbox kinect/one etc

I think that both laptops and tablets have their places. I prefer using my laptop to using my phone or a tablet. I have Windows 8 and it takes my laptop about the same amount of time for it to turn on as it takes for my iPhone to turn on. I could have gotten a tablet instead of my laptop, but I really do prefer using laptops. My great grandpa has an iPad because it's easy for him to use. I would prefer having a desktop but my parents are divorced and I like being able to carry my laptop between their houses and have all my files with me.

Mmmmm laptops maybe not. Maybe get rid of cell phones. Its illegal here to text and whatever while driving, I see these GIRLS all the time texting in heavy traffic, I make faces at them and gestures, they just go on their merry way.
I'am getting sick and tired of them.!!!!!

Its illegal to use phones at all when driving over here, hefty fine and pointers I think.

I installed a hands free kit for less than the minimum fine, but I always see people using phones when driving. Even using them to change a music track or in sat nav mode and setting a destination is a no no

Ipads can do everything? Really? Do they have a set of USB points, headphone and microphone jacks?

I see a place for everything as aeoliandave highlights - we can have a pretty good choice to even state that the humble smartphone could replace the iPad instead of the iPad replacing the laptop.
