I think certain types of paint are designed to do that. Rustoleum makes a line of hammertone paint and primer in one. I bought a can of it at Lowe's about a year and a half a go to paint a badly scarred PN4. I used the black, which was actually closer to a gunmetal gray. It was the most forgiving spray paint I've ever used. The texture built up a bit with each successive coat. Unfortunately, the color palate is a little limited. If I recall correctly, it was just black, bronze and silver.


The buffed-out nameplate area was a little custom touch. They never came from the factory that way but they should have.
