Compact C-1

I placed a bid on this. I don't want it for myself ... if I am the winning bidder I'd like to send it to Tania as a get-well gift since she is such an avid Compact fanatic. I doubt she has a C1 in such nice condition.

Well, I tried... someone outbid me at the last minute. I didn't want to put too high a bid on it in case she does have one minty-mint brand new in the box, so I was conservative.

Curiously, the high bidder does not have any purchases of vintage vacuums, at least, not in the visible transactions. I am wondering why someone would all of a sudden get interested enough in an old sweeper to snipe an eBay auction.

I can't help but wonder if this might have been a shill bid that backfired. We'll know that's the case if the machine turns up again in a couple of weeks with the coincidental explanation that "deadbeat seller refused to pay..."

I will say, it's quite a nice find -- the 2nd version of the Compact [see link to see the very first model], and with the original box. Even with a replacement hose, it's not something that would turn up every day.

Compact C-1

I guess the Compact C-1 really is rarer then hen's teeth. I have yet to see one for sale on eBay. It's one of those cleaners (like the Rainbow) that has eluded my collection. Only once did I see a Compact C-2 come into the Oreck dealership for service. The motor seemed tired, and the suction was lackluster at best. It was pretty banged up as well, still the lady refused to part with it as a trade-in, even though she had another Compact from the late '60's.
