Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade a Royal metal upright motor from a 3 amp one to a 6 or 7 amp one? If so, please tell me what model(s) you have in which you attempted such a conversion.

Say you have an 880 from the 1970s with a 3 amp motor. It went to 4.5 amps for 1982, and finally to 5.4 amps in 1985, and remained as such until its mid-1987 replacement by the 886, which had a 6 amp motor. Again, is it possible to upgrade a 350 watt/400 watt/3 amp motor to a 6 amp or 7 amp one?

These are the non-drop-in motors I am referring to.

History of Royal metal upright motors:

350 watts = 1946 to 1970

400 watts = 1970 to 1975

3 amps = 1975 to 1981

4.5 amps = 1982 to 1984

5.0 amps = 1987 to 1995 (654, 655, 656, 882, 885)

5.4 amps = 1985 to 1987 (last 608, 880)

6.0 amps = 1985 to 1991 (618, 360/380/660/680, 886, 6103)

7.0 amps = 1990 to 1995 (670/690, 994, 996, 9700)

In addition to general motor assembly upgrading, is it also possible to switch from the original 6-blade impeller fan (R-053004) to a 9-bladed one (R-608004 or R-608005 depending on age of unit)?

Thank you,

Ben
