cleaning carpets

I'm assuming the tandom air uprights try to offer the advantages of the dirty and clean air uprights. I know the clean air uprights are better with attachments, and when using any kind of canister with a power nozzle, it's similar to the clean air design. When it comes to cleaning carpets, does one design offer any advantage over the other?

As far as I know the only Tandem Air upright vacuums are made by Tacony Corp. in St. James Missouri. The most popular models are the Riccar and Simplicity lines. The Tandem air design is almost unmatched in carpet cleaning performance except maybe by Kirby. When cleaning carpet both motors are running. When using the hose for above the floor cleaning the dirty fan motor is turned off and only the bypass air motor runs. Watch the Demo video below to see it in action.

Tandem air, cont.

Ok, I thought you meant one fan in the base, and another suction motor up behind the bag chamber.
Miele also makes them like Tacony. Not sure about Sebo.
A true tandem air design would be the old Airway Sanitizor with the old style steel Eureka upright used as a power nozzle, still retaining it's fan, but not the bag. The wand tube is in place of the bag.

Show us the Miele you speak of

I was not aware of any other Tandem air machines besides the Tacony models.  These are true Tandem machines.  They have a Direct (dirty air) fan close to the action for good air flow, and a Bypass (clean air) motor behind the bag for suction.

Pretty dern good machines.  IMO

Think of a Tacony tandem air vacuum as a "monster" vac you can buy.It is the same idea as some vac collectors by pairing a Kirby or some other direct air upright with a central vacuum,NSS M1, or another canister vacuum. The direct air fan close to the flooring surface being cleaned-and the clean air fan after the bag and filters. If you want a "monster" vacuum you don't have to make up-the Tacony Simplicity-Riccars are excellent choices.I still use a separate canister, though even if you can use the Simplicity-Riccar machine as a "canister".Its just awkward to me.-But it will work. The Tacony machines have it over a Kirby for canister use-no worry of quarters, pebbles, and such going thru the direct air fan at max motor speeds. You just can't pick up large, long items with those of they will clog the airpath.Such as pens or popsickle sticks.Beleive me at the vac shop-folks have tried!!You need a commercial canister or Shop Vac for those things.

Tacony cordless nozzle

Tom, when will the cordless power nozzle be available? That sounds kind of neat. Wonder what kind of battery life it will have, hopefully it will spin as fast as corded power heads. Yes, it would be interesting to add that to something like an old Electrolux model g or some of those 1950's canisters that you showed me last year.
