Can Someone Help Me With My Electrolux?

I need some information please. I recently purchased an electrolux diamond jubilee and have what has been called a pn2 nozzle. I am missing the pigtail power cord that runs to the nozzle. What replacement am I looking for? Also, what belt am I looking for? Sorry for my ignorance. I'm an upright guy, and this is my first venture into a canister vacuum and I'm quite excited to refurb it and try it out. Any information is greatly appreciated!

That's not the PN that came with a new Diamond J. I needed that pigtail in green to match a 1205 PN2 set....took forever to find in that color. Looks like perhaps somebody put a Diamond J wand on a older style PN2?

As Real1shep said, the Diamond Jubilee shipped with a PN5, not a PN2. The PN2 came with the 1205, both the original teal and "Golden Jubilee" variants. I prefer its square design to the later L-shaped nozzles and use a similarly shaped PN4A with my Diamond J.

It's only real design flaw in the PN2 is the pigtail connector. The plug that connects to the power nozzle was initially too narrow front to back and fell out very easily, which could explain why yours is missing. Electrolux addressed the issue first by issuing a three-piece metal bracket to secure the plug to the power nozzle and then by revising the plug design to make it fatter front to back. The revised version resembles a Myan pyramid and is much more stable. The pigtail cords are readily available on eBay. I picked one up a couple of years ago for $7, including shipping. If you get a good deal on one of the earlier pigtails with the skinny connector, you can easily secure it by taking the upper shell off of the unit and threading the cord through the hole where the receptacle is. You'll have to kind of force the plug through but you won't hurt it. When you put the upper shell back on the power nozzle, it will hold that plug in firmly in place.

This Diamond J even has the 50th Jubilee marking on the power nozzle. Somebody really went through the trouble of switching it.

It sounds to me as if you may have your names mixed up. What color is your canister? The Diamond Jubilee is kind of an off white, the color most desktop computers were back in the '80s and '90s and has a sticker on it that reads "Diamond Jubilee". The 50th anniversary model (often colloquially referred to as a 'Golden Jubilee') was painted a gaudy shade of gold and had a blue 50th anniversary sticker on the canister as well as on the power nozzle. I can't imagine why anyone would bother to transfer that blue sticker to a later model machine. Also not all PN2 power nozzles got the anniversary sticker. Those that shipped with the teal 1205 and the Super J, which shared the 50th anniversary model's gaudy gold paint job, did not get the blue anniversary sticker.

Yeah, that makes more sense. Great machine, by the way, and well worth the effort you're putting into fixing it up. It's essentially a cosmetically updated version of the teal 1205. The biggest change, aside from the color, was a much-needed redesign of the handle on top. The teal 1205 had a one-piece, T-shaped handle that was notorious for pulling out at the back and breaking off. Yours has a two-piece handle that won't break off.

A cool feature of your PN2, and one of the reasons I like it so well, is that it's got a two-position brush roll. When it gets a little worn, you can switch it to the 'used' position, similar to the way a Kirby brush roll works, and get a little extra life out of it. It's a great feature and I've always wondered why Electrolux only put it on the PN2. I guess they just wanted to sell more replacement brush rolls.

Yes, so sorry. I'm new to the world of Electrolux and canister vacuums. This one caught my eye in a Goodwill store and I picked it up for $7.50. I did notice the brushroll had two positions when I disassembled parts of it and cleaned it last night. A very good design that allows for much more use out of a roller before having to replace it. A really beautiful machine. Any idea what it would date to?

Not to worry. We're all on a learning curve in one way or other. No one can be expected to be an expert in all things. Your 50th anniversary machine was produced in 1974-75 and was succeeded, perhaps with a slight overlap, by the Super J, which also wore 50th anniversary paint schems but was about an inch longer to accommodate a larger, more powerful (and more noisy) motor.

The link below might be of interest. It shows a chronology of Electrolux vacuum cleaners sold in the U.S. but I don't think it's completely accurate as it lumps the "Golden J", as it calls the 50th anniversary machine, together with the Super J as being essentially the same machine. It also shows a nonexistent gap in production between 1976 and 1977, which I believe is where the Super J should fit as a separate model, succeeded in 1979 by the Olympia One.

The 50th Aniversary model and the Super J were darn near introduced at the same time.....it causes a lot of confusion. As was said, the motors arer WAY different.


 


As Edgar said, the handle design of the Aniversary model is much stouter than the 1205. I personally don't like the color scheme of those vacs.....very 70ish mundane. The Diamond J was bland too going into the 80's, but in a much more pleasant way I think.

@electroluxxxx--Yes, that would be me. That's why my Diamond J has a PN4A hanging off the end of the wand. The 'outrigger' on the Omniflow (PN5 and up) nozzles are on the wrong side for me. Oddly enough I find it a little less awkward on my 'Lux uprights. I don't understand exactly why it's different but it is.

@firebirdman55--Just be patient with eBay. It's kind of like fishing. Just because what you need isn't there today doesn't mean it won't be there tomorrow or next week or whenever. I looked earlier today and saw one cord but it was about $14 plus shipping. That seems a bit steep to me but I've included the link below just the same. @human I think you might be a little confused as to who you were replying to lol
All I did was mention that I thought I had a cord and that when I went to look it was missing as well.

I may be able to locate a cord for you at a friends shop considering there are hundreds of these nozzles there. I should be up there come sometime next week, I would be more than happy to grab one and ship it to you once I get up there.

Those cords are still out there I still see them. There were 2 different colored cords.
One was blueish and the other dirty white. both are the same cord one was for 1205 and one for the golden J

I think that one will find the aqua colored cord for the 1205 color scheme a bit rare....I did. Practically everything is "out there' but finding a source other than eBay isn't always easy.


 


I like the fishing analogy about eBay.....you might not see something you want on eBay for over a yr and then suddenly, three in a week! Crazy....

The elbow connectors on the PN2 also came in both teal and off-white but the teal ones weren't exclusive to the 1205. Many Golden J's came with teal elbowed PN2s as well. Electrolux often used colors at random, depending on what was in stock at any given moment. I have one PN2 that came with a teal wand for a 1205 and has a teal elbow but has a white pigtail cord. It's possible the cord is not original to the unit since they were notorious for falling off.
