My rainbow e2 black ask of late is sounding like there is no foam sound insulation in it. Some times it's the real loud high pitched whining sound other times it's fairly quite. I have tried the separator evey way imaginable and it's still loud. I had it cleaned last month and when I got it back it was so quiet. I even carefully removed the top and inspected it to see if the insulation had shifted. My e2 gold would do the exact same thing sometimes it was quiet other times it was loud. Anyone else ever notice it being louder sometimes and quieter other times.

Who did you have it cleaned by? My E2 doesnt change sound like that but it has developed a slight vibration sound it seems. Not sure what that is but its probably all the dirt getting past the separator.

I doubt it, I also doubt if there is any real benefit to use jet dry. Also only use 1 drop. I also have hard water and couldn't really notice a difference. Did they tell you how dirty it was or anything?

has never been cleaned.....it doesn't really need it and I haven't noticed a noise. You know you can get the rainbow hepa's pretty cheap from think crucial if you're not replacing them because of price. I went five years with mine and changed it just to be safe.
Just out of curiosity - wouldn't essential oils or the rainbow fragrances be the same thing as using jet dry? Don't they make the water wetter as well or no? I'm not a chemist. I'm not sure how that works but I would think anything oily would make dirt stick to the water more. I tried jet dry and even a drop of that stuff foams. Also fabric softener. The only thing that doesn't foam at all is rainbow fragrances or essential oil.

Dang... My hepa didn't last a year. I have no clue what I'm sucking up but it's a yellowish film on the inside of the fan.
I'm not not replacing them because of price as I can get OEM filters for $36. When I had my e2 gold I had my dealer who is no longer in business check it after 5 years and she told me it was probably good for another two years and that I must have been doing everything right.

City water but the separator is perfect and I clean it every use. No clue but technically nothing should get past the separator.

Even though the separator looks clean I'd still clean it after every use, between the grooves....They don't show dirt so they can be dirty and you can't even see it. But for your situation, I'm not sure what the hell that is. - it must be something in your water...It almost looks like rust.

Its brown/tan and sticky/goo-y. Also the bottom metal plate on my Kirby is getting the same or similar stuff on it. Its a brown goo but washes off extremely easy. I think I may have an answer to both as I was thinking last night. My house is somewhat clean given how much traffic there is but my socks get dark on the bottom with just a few minutes of walking around. I believe the culprit of both is old carpet glue or something.
I have steps and the steps are dark like some sort of coating or flue was on them. It almost looks like very very thin layer of carpet glue but the steps are not sticky. This weekend I put runner treads down of carpet I had left over so well see what happens. Tonight Im going to mop and shampoo the carpets in a few rooms I hope. I wont be able to test the rainbow because its already dirty but if the rug plate on the Kirby stays cleans then I've figured it out.

the Noise or vibration
i had fought with this noise/vibration for a while of trial and error the vibration is one of the three screws that keep the plastic housing around the motor is stripped or is missing which is causing a leak and of course plastic rattling vibrating. i found that put a bigger screw in and sealed it down and no more vibration or noise. as for louder its the upper or lower bearing. after about 15 years the grease in them kind of dries up there are a few sites that sell them fairly cheap. hope this helps anyone else out there.

I bought brand new....over the years I've never noticed a change in pitch. It's literally always sounds the same...I just used it today...Once in a while when I turn it OFF the rev down is kinda vibration (ish) but it's always mostly a very smooth typical sound you hear from Rainbows.

When you get that vibration of the run down or while running, make sure the separator is seated properly. Grease the bearings. Especially for folks who run their machine continuously as an air purifier. Grease the motor bearings after 5 or so years of use.
