I never thought the day would come, but I think I may have been unknowingly converted to Hooverism. I expect a gang of angry Kirbys to corner me in the dark recesses of my basement any day now...
I've always been a devout Kirby enthusiast, and never paid much attention to other brands. Well, last year I got my first Hoover, a model 450. The beautiful Art Deco design captivated me, and I had to have one. After nearly a year of admiration, I finally decided to give it a test drive. I had run it, of course, but never actually used it to clean the rugs. After just a few minutes, I was hooked. I knew I had to find another coffee can Hoover to use everyday, since the 450 is "retired".
Fast forward to the present: yesterday I picked up a model 543, 300, and 300 special. The 543 was intended to replace the Kirby 508 as my daily driver. The seller happened to be coming to my area today, so offered to deliver it. To my surprise, it also had 2 siblings that needed to be adopted as well. I couldn't say no...you could almost hear Sarah McLachlan singing "Angel" in the background. Those sad eyes!
As if that weren't enough, in addition to picking up my Packard from Chad on Sunday night, I had the unexpected opportunity to buy a model 825 as well, which I of course did. It looks fabulous next to the 450! It's raining Hoovers this week!
Besides the coffee cans, I've also been using a Constellation 82 that I found at an estate sale to clean my classic cars. It's incredibly quiet, which is nice when you're in a small confined area, such as a car. I suspect this won't be my last constellation, either.
The Hoovers have certainly outnumbered the Kirbys now (though I have no plans on getting rid of them by any means!). I guess this makes me a newly converted Hoover collector. To make things official, I have changed my background image from the Kirby logo to the Hoover Logo.
Happy Hoovering!
UPDATE:
They Kirbys have already gotten into a scuffle with the Hoovers. Who will win?
