Brand New Slimline "Deluxe"

Here is a model 2040 Slimline from 1968. Again this was from the vault. I am just cleaning the machine for next year's display. It is number 1001 which is the first model off of the line. This was a new model for this series as it featured a tool rack and a cord reel. Don't you just love the seal griege color? It sold new for $44.50 retail. This runs great and still smells new. Even the little filter over the exhaust is still intact. However, the hose is missing for some reason.

I have another question...

Did the Hoover Convertibles, have all the matching machines to go with that color shceme? Like the slimline and the well...I can get to mine see the kind but the Hoover box vacuum that held everything in it.

The Portable and the Slimline had very similar color schemes to the entire Hoover line up even the polishers for instance. They usually had very similar trim. In the late 60's Hoover had a color called seal griege...a combo of grey and beige. This particular machine that is in the photos is seal greige deep, medium, and light. They then added a colorful hood to the convertible or dial a matic or what have you. So the whole line had a common theme or color. In the early 70's they went to a taupe color and then to white. They just built the machines around one basic color to save money. Early on in the 1950's there were colored sets like the model 82 Constellation and the model 63 upright both in blue and grey. This must have been too costly as the line broadend and some retailers began demanding their own models to sell exclusively.
