Brand New never used Frankenlux

Has anyone else come across this Frankenlux on eBay? I love the way they fit a Model G front cover on a Model E. I am amazed on the junk people put for sale out there, thinking they have something that is "Brand New" never used and it turns out to be a butchered up either Desco or Metropolitan rebuilt, this one takes the cake, I thought I have seen everything over the years. The best thing about this machine is the vintage genuine bag with the $.25 price on it.

I think this is a case of someone who thinks mom's old vacuum is worth a fortune due to it's being old. I sent the seller an email telling them that it's just not worth that much money. It's not in it's original box, lacks it's original paper work... and oh, yeah... it has a broken wheel. I bet I get a reply like 'You don't know what your talking about, it's a vintage Electro-something. It's worth like, $5,000 and I'm selling for nothing."

That's a Model F -- originally grey and white. You can tell by the way the "stabilizing feet" around the front caster are metal, integrated into the motor housing, and are folded downward rather than being horizontal. The cover is original to the machine.


 


The cord winder is not original, however. It's from a Model E or early E-Automatic. During the run of the E-A, the cord winder design was changed slightly -- an aluminum band approx. 5/8" wide was added around the circumference of the cord winder. It was decorative as well as functional -- this version is much easier to put back together than the earlier one.

Good information from Charles. This could be a good vac for someone if and only if it were well under $100.(Even the attachments do have value.)I have seen the first blue and many Elux bags with different messages and advertising but not this one with the 25 cent price! Anyone else seen this? Any other unseen bags?

I have a couple of the 25¢ bags. They're from the same era (F thru early G) as the advertising-top bags. I don't know the back-story on them. It's hard to imagine someone buying these bags one at a time since they fill up so quickly!

Just looked more closely at this. I take it back about the cord winder. It's actually from a model LX -- it is not the swing-open style, which makes it earlier than the E-A/E style.
