I was at a training session at the Hoover Historical Center today when I was asked to clean up some vacs for next year's display. Of course was my immediate answer. I was given this Hoover Convertible model 65 in gold no less from the "vault" at the company. This machine is brand new. The only bad part is that they have a pink 65 bag in the box with the machine. The machine was packed in a Convertible 1060 box too. The serial number predates the numbers of other Gold models. So I am not sure if they were just experimenting at this point and no gold bag was available. Well anyway enjoy the pics. I have not yet cleaned this beauty up yet. And yes, it does run!

Tom or Jeff...

Was this machine available to the public? Or were there other convertibles that were gold? Because as a child a friend of my moms who used to babysit me once in a while. She had a gold one like this with a white bag and gold lettering on the bag, is my memory correct? Yes, I did use it and of course vacuumed her home I thought it was a cool looking Hoover.

golden model 65

David those were not for sale, they were given away as prizes and premiums, much like the 80th anniversary Elite that was just on ebay.
There were 20,000 Golden model 65's made in total.

Model 65

Hi guys what a blast from the past. In 1959 my Mom and her best friend both bought Hoover #65 my Mom wanted the pinkish unit her friend got the gold. They both lasted for many, many years. They truely are wonderful machines. Tom as always thanks for the pictures your March weekend looked very nice Doug

Wow!!!!

look at that pretty gold base! And that brushroll! It's beautiful! So why was it in the box of a much later made convertible???

WOW!!

Hey Tom

To say that must be unique would be somewhat of an understatement (although yours,Jeffs and Freds are not that far behind lol).

Its odd there was a pink 65 bag with it- as you say maybe they didnt make the gold ones till after this one was made- guess its one of those never to be answered questions :(.

what we don't know is

where the serial numbers start for the gold models, they were numbered consecutively with the pink ones!
The only other info I have on the gold machines is they were produced in 4 runs of 5000 each.

Tom, Fred, and myself all have Golden Convertibles. I can't remember now which one is oldest!

I agree Jeff, it is very difficult to tell how old these gold models are. This one cleaned up near perfect. Too bad it did not have the bag. The pink 65 bag that was with it had been very very very slightly used and it still had the "foam" lining in the dirt tube. (Which completely evaporated during the cleaning process!) I greased the motor bearing and the agitator bearings and it runs like new and it should because it is! It even had a gold covering on the cord running from the handle bail to the motor! I put the pink bag on it and ran it around a little to get the grease warmed up and it looks horrid with that pink bag. It just won't do! If you had a brand new Gold 65 in your house wouldn't you run it around your rugs????

didnt Hoover make a small-top C-style white vinyl replacement bag in the 70s(?)? would be perfect.
