Looking for a small lightweight stick vac to take care of hardwood floors, area rugs, and carpeted stairs. I’d prefer one with a brush roll, but I am open to straight suction models too. I’ll want one I can get from Walmart/Target/Lowe’s/Amazon/etc. While I realize there are some good ones $100 up, I can’t let myself spend that much. Recommendations?

Honestly I had an older Bissell 3 in 1 stick/hand vac and it was a pretty good vacuum for quick cleanups. They're still basically the same and can be gotten cheaply, sometimes $10 or so during back to school sales. The one I had at least came with two filters so you could wash one and still use the vacuum with the other, but extra filters are cheap regardless.

Since you have rugs and carpeted surfaces the Eureka would probably be a lot better though because of the brushroll.

While browsing a local Big Lots, I found the Bissell 3 in 1 for $19. It is a pretty blue, so I got it. It has 2 filters in it: the one in the dust cup, and a black sponge in front of the fan. It did not come with spares. I was surprised to see they bumped up the power from 1 amp (I had one of these in the 90s and it was only 1 amp) to 2 amps. It’s actually pretty strong given its size and price. And I was happily surprised to see it came with a crevice tool.

I haven’t seen a Eureka in a local store, but I may look online to see if I can find one reasonably priced.

I was considering a Dirt Devil that looks similar to the Bissell and Eureka, and it has a powered brush roll. But reviews online weren’t that great. I don’t know if it’s actually product issues or user error.
