Tjhooverman,we lived in Sparta Wisconsin (Near LaCrosse WI) in the early to mid 1970s, and there was a locally owned home center that sold and installed Beam Central Vacuums. There are many houses in that area that are equipped with them, and from what i remember of the time is that there were no power nozzles or power hoses. The 30 ft hoses were simular to the one shown in the pic above, but were a brownish/light maroon color,,and came with creme colored Eureka style attachments. Including the standard Eureka Floor Tool, and extra long Floor Brush with the seperate elbow.
The "Power Brush" that came with the Beam systems then was called a Preco. Its a turbine power brush, that runs off the suction of the machine. They were sold with many vacuums at the time. Singer being one of them. I believe Rainbow at one time also came with a Preco, if you ordered it.
As far as the Beam System itself,,they were yellow/cream colored with a brown bucket/bottom that collected the dirt.
Many of our neighbors in Sparta WI had Beam systems,,infact one of our neighbors owned the home center that sold them,,and another neighbor was their installation man. He was also the shop teacher at the Sparta Senior High School at the time.
The home center owner had a large home, with a finished "Rec Room" basement,,that had carpeted walls. I remember that house having MANY creme colored Beam Central Vac Inlets,,and they had a hose for each level of the home. I thought that was just the coolest thing going!
My parents built a large new home in Sparta in 1972,,and you can be sure i dreamed that we would have Beam Central vac also, but of course, my mother (not sympathetic to my love of vacuums at all) bought the ONE vacuum i hated. No Beam for me! But, 20 yrs later, when i bought my own home,,i finally got my Beam!
