A good central vacuum is a great option on many levels.
Unfortunately many perspective customers don't or cant go that route. Due to over all cost. And yes many will opt to over pay for a machine that isn't effective in hopes of finding a portable vacuum that works. Others are in a property that they don't own and there for are unable to install a built in system.
So there is always going to be a market for a portable unit.
A lot of new homes being built have central vacuums as the plumbing for it can be installed before the walls go up and the over all costs are included in the mortgage.
