Bag savers eat airflow!

Whenever I used this interceptor or bag saver i've noticed the machine attached to it would change pitch. This indicated that there was a performance loss caused by the additional twists and turns in the airpath. While it was expected that there would be a reduction of 15-20 CFM it turned out to be far worse than expected.

The vacuum used was a Numatic Henry HVR-200-11 with an 8' foot wessel werk hose it's usual airflow with this hose was 97.61 adding the wand didn't seem to effect it at least not significantly. Adding the interceptor caused a 43.66 CFM loss or about 45%.

Same here

I noticed exactly the same thing. It eats A LOT of the airflow.
It is almost useless because loss is so high. It's due to the cyclone action, very sharp bends and narrow air paths.

Without the bag saver 92 cfm
With the bag saver 45 cfm
Loss - 47 cfm

So huge drop in airflow making the vacuum almost useless.

Unless you were vacuuming liquids, wondering why you would use an intercepter? Since Henry uses a bag, if you were cleaning up something you did not want to remain in the bag, when you were done just toss the bag and put ihn a new one.

The interceptors were sold with a few vacuums marketed as "bag savers" which were intended to keep the bulk of incoming dirt out of the bag meaning the bag would fill slower. This could not have actually worked because while they do trap larger particles a bunch of fine bag clogging particles would make it through. So I feel like they would not actually help. That and they lower the vacuum's cleaning power.

Now as for collectors we tend to use them as a demonstration or testing tool since it's easier to see what fills a clear cup. However I can now see for myself that they cause a significant power loss.

I had a similar experience

I had a similar experience with an intercepter that lets you do wet pick-up with a central vacuum that was only designed for dry use. I got some parts and built a home made attachment for scrubing my hard floors, a wand with a spray jet, a 40 foot water hose to attach to a faucet, and a brush and squeegee attachment. I thought the intercepter would work well but it decreased the cleaning power quite a bit, even with a central vacuum unit. It was kind of disappointing actually, so now I use what I made with either a wet dry vac or one of my water filtration vacs and that works much better.
