Attention Percolator Collectors!

<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">I'm hoping that one of you can possibly help me.  During this past week while out thrifting in a few of my favorite stores, I found an unusual cordless programmable percolator called the Dazey Perk Up Plus.  It consists of a 12-cup percolator that connects to a base that has an LED clock-timer built into it.  One thing about it that perplexes me: when I turn it on, the clock display changes from the current time to what appears to be a two-hour countdown!  It seems like you can change the time on it by pressing the minute set button on the base, but as the time decreases down to zero the machine eventually turns off.  I have NO IDEA what the purpose of that time display is!  Hoping maybe that someone here might be familiar with this machine and can give me an idea of what that time display's all about.  Also, if anyone has an instruction manual for this machine and would be willing to make a copy for me, I'd be most grateful.  Thanks and Merry Christmas to all!</span>

I'm not familiar with that model but what you describe sounds like a countdown timer to keep the coffee warm for a set period of time and then shut off automatically. I wonder if it also has a function to set a time for it to automatically start perking like many drip coffee makers do.

<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">Thanks for your reply!  When I read it, I thought to myself "Duh!  Why didn't you think of that?"  And then, I decided to check it out.  Made a test pot of coffee with it tonight, and made a time-lapse video of the pot brewing.  The video showed that the percolator stopped perking with about 1:45 remaining on the countdown clock -- in other words, the machine took the customary 15 minutes to brew a full 12-cup pot (which most of my other machines also seem to do).  The rest of the time, then, would be a holding or "keep warm" feature which automatically turns off after 2 hours or whatever time interval the user sets it for.  So -- you were spot on in your description to me of what it was!</span>


 


<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">And to answer your question: yes, it DOES have a timer to start brewing automatically just like the drip machines!  I think that this percolator was Dazey's answer to those customers who wanted the convenience of the drip coffeemaker's timer but didn't want to give up using their tried-and-true percolators.</span>

Farberware had a similar percolator in stainless steel that also sat on a round base and kept the coffee hot for 2 or so hours after the perk cycle was complete. The Farberware (Salton at the time) was complete garbage. I had one and eventually the buttons on the programmable clock cracked and were no longer legible. In addition, the perk cycle became shorter and shorter and eventually produced very weak coffee, so it became a garbage can item. I've heard even the new Farberware branded perks are not much better and barely last 2 years; very much different than the older units that were made in NY and seemed to last forever!
