Hi everyone, when the new Vacuumland went live nearly 45 days ago I gave all members who logged in and were not already upgraded 45 free days to check out and use all of the upgraded features. On this coming Friday night the first round of trial upgrades will expire and those who are not upgraded will see the site change a bit.

If you are wondering how many upgraded days you have left in your account simply look here...

First and foremost I want it to be clear that everyone is welcome here whether you are an upgraded member or not. An upgraded membership is not a requirement in any way to view threads, make postings in the threads, see the member collection photos or view the Vacuum of the Day, you will still be able to do all of this as a non-paying member. Again I want to stress that whether you decide to become a donating member of Vacuumland or decide to just have a free membership everyone is welcome. If you decide to upgrade, the $12 yearly donation is used to pay for the ever rising costs of running Vacuumland and it certainly would be appreciated, but again it's not a requirement.

The main difference between the free memberships and the upgraded donating memberships is the difference in site features between the two accounts types. Free accounts have less extra features, see advertising, cannot access the Miscellanea Forum and the site runs a bit slower. Please click here to see the upgrade page and view the chart that describes the difference between the free membership and the upgraded membership.

Another thing to remember is that come Friday night the Miscellanea forum will be closed non-upgraded members and all Junior members.

If you decide to upgrade, unlike the old system under the VCCC, the new system has now been tied directly into Paypal, so as long as paypal is sending donation information instantly, your account's upgraded days will update within a few minutes after the donation is processed. Under the old system it used to take days for it to be updated as it was a completely manual system.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this change. Thanks everyone and we do appreciate your support of the work we've done here to make Vacuumland a central town square for all vacuum cleaner experts, collectors and aficionados.

Just paid my fee, upgraded days changed instantly - very efficient system via PayPal, and works out at £8.10 for a year to UK members. Cant grumble at that, and hope more people pay the fee or the miscellanea forum is gonna be a bit dead.
Do think that since the Junior forum opened, the main forum is now quieter as we have many young members who do have interesting things to say to older members, not just for other junior members, and these members don't just have to post in the junior forum - it does seem like segregation, and the main forums are missing out on what these juniors have to contribute.
Otherwise, I'm very happy with the new payment scheme and I wish more UK members would join up.

Wow its great to see such support, there has been quite a few upgrades overnight and this morning I do appreciate it!

Steve just so everyone is clear the Juniors do have and will have access to the Vintage, Contemporary, Household and Super Market forums, so there will be plenty of opportunity for the adults to correspond with the Juniors on many different subjects. But I do appreciate the feedback and if we feel that what I designed isn't working out for the best I will always be open for other ideas and options, nothing will be set in stone here.

Thanks again everyone,

Juniors...

Thanks for the feedback re the Junior Forum - nice to see that our younger collectors will still be able to post in the other forums - I presume the Junior forum will be a place for childish banter between the younger members, most of it not related to vacuums? Many of the juniors have large collections and I do like to see them and read about them, although I don't post as much now due to work commitments, but I will always drop in to read about members and their new vacs. You have done the right thing re upgrade fees, and the amount you ask is so small that anyone that moans about paying it is really not a vacuum fan.
We all appreciate the work that goes into running this site and most of us will never begrudge a small annual fee to help towards the running costs.
Keep up the good work!

OK I've moved the changes into the live system for the end of the trial period, if anyone notices anything strange or possible bugs please let me know.

One user did report trouble logging in, although I think I found the root cause and fixed that, but if anyone is still having a logging-in issue please let me know either here or via email.

Thanks everyone.

Hey Robert,

I upgraded because of the new site upgrades.  I had thought about doing so before you took it over, but felt that it was previously too much of a hassle.  Having a PayPal link is so much easier.  THANK YOU!

Just done....

Been a hetic couple of days here lol....
And to anyone who dosen't want to upgrade its not even a bottle of Coke a month - I would have done it much sooner if the VCCC had given the option just to donate to support the site!!
