with 3 cats and 2 litter boxes, I sure would like it if someone made a smaller, lightweight canister vacuum, with easily swappable attachments, and easy to roll through the house. Maybe something that is dependable, with filters so that dust does not just go back in the air as you vacuum. For this litter cleanup, so far, I have had to use shop vacs because of the dirt involved. But, they have outgoing air ports. On my newest one, I had to put a sock around that outgoing port and that could cause problems over the long haul. Scoopable litter has fine dust like drywall dust. Nasty stuff. I keep looking for a scoopable solution with no dust, but have yet to find one. And, with me scooping the dang things many times a day (6 already this morning), you can imagine what it does to my lungs AND the vacuum. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And, please don't tell me to let them outdoors. I live in Texas, on the water, where there are alligators and black mocs. Not risking it.

If you're looking at straight suction canister vacuums, have you looked at the Simplicity Jill or Miele Compact C1 canisters? The Miele would be best here, since the 9 layer AirClean bags really do help the vacuum retain it's airflow & suction as the bag fills. Also, generic FJM bags are cheap to buy in bulk, & HEPA exhaust filters with the charcoal filtration layer are still available in generic form.

The Simplicity Jill's main advantage would be price, & the fact you can use generic fit-all central vac attachments on the wand without needing an adapter like you do with Miele. You may also prefer the large wheels at the back vs Miele's 3 caster wheel setup their canisters use. However, there are no generic HEPA filters available, and generic bags are harder to find than Miele bags and filters.

However, if you are open to other types of vacuums, can I make a suggestion? I think a Shark Rocket corded stick vacuum might be perfect for what you need. Get one with the DuoClean brushroll system so it cleans bare floors as well as carpets. But it would be really good for your needs - not only with it being bagless, but the foam & felt filters are easy to clean, & unlike a Dyson-style stick vacuum with multi cyclones, that fine dust wouldn't get trapped to cause odors later and need dismantling and cleaning. I personally have had one for years - the Shark Rocket HV381 - and it's served me quite well.

Idk what you're Flooring situation is like, but I think a Eureka Mighty Mite would be a good option for you. If you have lots of carpeting, then I'd maybe look into also getting a turbo nozzle or a cordless power nozzle to go with it. Also, you can get HEPA bags and HEPA post motor filters for it, both I strongly recommend using over conventional paper bags. For attachments, the diameter is 1 1/4 in., which is a widely used fitting, meaning you'll be able to find tons accessories for you to use with it.

Full disclosure, though, I'm not speaking from experience, as I don't own one, but I know enough about them that I feel I can safely say that they're decent machines.
