I decided to make my vintage Arvin heater a little safer so I salvaged a thermal fuse from a old sunbeam bread maker a. So I installed it in the heaters frame . And how old is it and was 5$ a good price for it.

Neat! A rollover cutoff switch might also be a good idea. I like how it has a light bulb on it to make it look like it's working lol.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say just post-war, maybe pre-war. Still a bit too art-deco to be up into the 1950s.

You know you can buy all the thermal fuses you want from places like Digi-key or Mouser. I just got a couple recently for an attic fan motor that'd burned its fuse.

I have been using it

I just replaced the old aspetos power cord with one from a burned up chop saw and I also polished the little two blade fan and it works great

It's a handsome little heater

I was thinking it's from the mid-forties too. I've got a few from the era. They're nice and quiet because the fans are 2-blade metal and don't move a lot of air compared to many of today's heaters. What they do push out is HOT. Most are rated between 1670-1740 watts.

I have a 1917 Hotpoint Parabolic made by Edison Electric Co.Chicago,USA (where else?) that is solid copper, no fans 670 watts that's considered a personal heater as apposed to being a room heater. No switches or thermostat just plug it in.

The Nichrome wire eventually fatigued and a strand separated so no heat. Held on to it but replaced with a new 1500 Presto heating cone and all is well. A friend says the old wire can be fixed but...naah.

That’s what I thought

I always wanted one but I finally found one. My dad won’t let me get one for the longest time because he thinks they are a fire hazard that why I in stalled the fuse you are probably wondering why I said dad the reason is I’m 17 . But I am a junk yard dog I’m a sucker for anything old. As you can see by my shop (:

Does you dad

like to fix things and tinker like you? If you're going to collect old appliances etc. make friends with the owners of mom and pop appliance repair shops. They can be a good source for hard to get parts. If your lucky and meet someone who likes to teach and is patient, you might ask if you can come in and work with him sometime to gain the knowledge or get a discount on parts . I got a completely rebuilt motor for a 1956 H.Beach Stand Mixer for free and all I did was stop in for a 20 min. visit.
