I was thinking of getting one for quick pick ups. The only thing I didn't care for was the short hose. Anyone have any experience with the new models? I am amazed they still make them. They're available on line for under $130.00, which seems reasonable.
Used to have a similar small hand Oreck, but it had little suction and seemed to clog quickly.

Some experience

I have one. The hose is stretchy, kind of like an upright vacuum hose material.

Overall I like it, still uses the classic Hoover attachments and chrome wands, nice long cord.

The suction is alright, pretty quiet too.

The only thing I don't care for as much is the bag setup with the reusable cloth bag. You can order a bag adaptor and use the Hoover N bags, but they're just single ply paper, and there's really no other filter media other than a thin foam exhaust door filter. It would be nice if Hoover would come out with a HEPA type N bag.

I got mine from Dollar Hog on eBay which sells store returns. I had to wash out the bag which had dog hair in it and order new wands from Top Vacuum as they were missing. Everything else was there. All in I was under about half the retail cost and it looked brand new after washing the bag. I like it, I'm just not sure I'd pay $130 for one though.

I hope they keep making them, they are probably one of the oldest designs still in production. And also (to my knowledge) the only Hoover still using the ring lock and latch style tools!

I bought one a few months ago and it's a good deal for the money. In a place like mine that's 100% bare floors with a few area rugs, it gets the job done. The cord is the perfect length. I will say Hoover makes probably the worst bare floor tool in the game, and the PortaPower still has Hoover's proprietary locking tools so you're stuck with what comes in the box/anything from vintage machines. That's my only real complaint. The classic floor/rug nozzle is great on area rugs however. The reusable bag isn't the cleanest but it's not much worse than any other bagless machine.

I would say the suction is similar if not a little better than the old Oreck Buster Bs. I love those but the bags are absurdly thin and clog like crazy. So far I have not had that issue with the PortaPower.

You won't regret buying one, especially as a collector.

Honestly I'm surprised they didn't add an orange cord to the small canister vac that came with the Platinum upright, change the colors and use that as the Portapower, instead of making two different machines. They are essentially the same thing, just the Platinum canister was more modern styled and takes standard attachments.

Not saying I'd want that to happen though!
