Nice find! Model 9? That must have been somewhere very very hot for the plug to melt like that. Vulcanized rubber does not like heat - which is ironic as that is why it was used for electric construction was it was an insulator against electrical current/arcing.
 
Sweet! I've had a few of those, they are probably the most durable vacuum ever(with the exception of the wheels). It is a model 9, but a later one made after the 1 million mark. The bag clip is replaced with something from a different vac.
 
thank you ! I saw on this old 1931 photo that the new Royal purifier were equipped with a rubber insulated cable but the royal standard, princess and royalette always had a twist fabric insulated cable !over time the rubber cables are all cracked and melted but the fabric cables are sometimes still in very good condition!
