Ok

I have no idea why I thought you had mentioned the colour lol :) it is stunning tho. Sadly mine is missing its made in USA sticker but im not complaining too much !

Enquiring minds, etc., etc. ...

The switch ... is it down for "off" and up for "on"? That might (possibly?) be an American influence. I'm sure the Australian switches were just push-button.

I have a question too ... what's the grey plug adaptor thingy its connected to? The plug at the end of the cable looks UK standard and therefore able to be used in the UK. The grey device is also UK standard ... so what's the device?

Surely you don't have the Connie hooked up to a timer to wake you to its dulcet tones? :-)

Good Guess :)

Hey Nick

You are correct- Uk built machines have the switch up for off and down for on.

The Grey adaptor is a plug in RCD (earth trip)

Jack LOL!

No it was only on for the first time we plugged it in to see how it behaved.

Usually plug an RCD in for the first time then dont bother with subsequent sessions with it.

Have got a really dodgy 612 that gets used now and then and I really ought to use the RCD with that but I dont bother.

It gets used with all the vintage washers though regardless.
Especially the Twin Tub and Toploader where water can potentially splash out and about.

How do guys.

Cheers for the piccies of your 858 Seamus.
I wasnt too sure about this one, due to its weird colouring, but it has definately grown on me for sure.

It needed a bit of cleaning and of course the removal of the strange blobs of white paint which always seems to adorn vacuum claeners when we find them!

But, after a wipe down and polish, it has come up a treat.

I noticed the switch thing too, when it was sat alongside the 862 we have. did cross my mind as to why they would change the on/off positions.

Below is the ratings sticker on our machine - I suppose the question has to be asked then:

do any European owners of 858's have a machine which does NOT date from April 1970?
Be interesting to find out if they did all come from a specific months production.
