Another Addition to my Electrolux Collection!!

My partner's mom liked my Miele Aquarius so much that she bought herself one. Now that she has a new vacuum, she finally caved in and gave me her Electrolux. She was the original owner and purchased it new in early 1988. I'm glad it is now part of my Electrolux collection.

OOOH, the unit looks to be in excellent shape, lucky you. I'd definitely replace that old braided hose. I've been using the Endust Hepa bags in my Ultralux Classic, they offer superior filtration and airflow does not suffer as greatly as the bag fills.

Actually I am not going to replace the hose because it is the original and it's in very good shape. It is completely sealed (no leaks). Ryan's mom took good care of her vacuum.

For bags, I am going to start using the "Perfect Canister" bags in all of my Lux's. I have two boxes being shipped to me as we speak. They are far better than the genuine Lux bags....especially the filtration...Another collector friend of mine is doing the same thing with his Lux's.

I think what was meant by "replace" is to not use and just keep for display. A hose like that in good condition is not a common find.

Great Lux and even better that you have a personal connection with the history of the machine. I too would keep the braided hose, but I would use a new vinyl hose, you will be surprised how much nicer it makes using the machine.

If you don't mind my asking, where are you ordering the Perfect Lux C bags from. I would love to use them in my machines as well.

Do keep us posted on the "Perfect cannister bags". I emailed the company and they told me they can't be used in lux as they are thicker and will reduce airflow and burn the motor out. If it's a hepa bag, I completely disagree with the response I got. So please keep us posted when they arrive.

I agree about the hose. I'm going to keep it but not use it much at all. I have an assortment of vinyl hoses that I use with all my Lux's. I love the look of the old woven hoses, but they are just too stiff in my opinion.

I am getting the Perfect C Style Bags from Tom in St. Louis. He got a Perfect Canister Vacuum in the mail and was raving about how great the bags were and how they are much better than the genuine Lux bags. I am not worried at all about them hurting my Lux motors. Actually, I think it will help them. With better filtration, it will keep more dust out of the motor thus preserving them longer. Anyways, Tom ordered me a couple of boxes. I am hoping to have them some time next week.

Up until now I hadn't looked at the box of bags. Interesting that the picture includes both Canadian and American models. Oddly enough they included the model 30, which never used paper bags, unless you have the rare converter, which is not shown. Interesting.

What's the selling price on those perfect cannister bags?? what quantities are they available in?? When I get around to purchasing them, I'll end up having them sent to my dad's mailbox in the US. Anything that's new or good, it seems to take forever to get it here in Canada, and then when we do get it, they want an arm and a leg for it.

What we're trying to tell you is- that hose will not last very much longer if it's used, no matter what. The rubber carcass inside it is going to crack at some point, no matter how excellent the care it has received, because 1988 was twenty years ago, and that rubber is getting close to the end of its life expectancy. Please do yourself (and the hose) a favour, and rely on a modern vinyl hose for actual use, reserving that braided one for display. Take it from someone who learned all this the hard way. My Diamond Jubilee came with a hose that was perfect- when I got the machine. Within a year, it wasn't perfect any more.

Hey Sandy,

Did you think I was going to start using the braided hose as my daily driver? No no no. Sorry if I made you think that.

I have been around Lux's my whole life and have over 20 in my collection. Trust me, there is no one who wants to preserve the hoses more than I do.

As I said in my post earlier, I have an assortment of vinyl hoses that I use with ALL my Lux's. I rarely if ever use the braided hoses because they are too stiff. I keep them because they are original and when I have mini-meets it's nice to be able to demonstrate the vacuum with the original hose. It's also nice to have the original hose for pictures. That's all.
