I have here an America model z. does the Z mean anything special or is it just the model? I thought most vacuums had a number. it also has no dates or patent numbers. just says patented

Cool. Z is just the model name... or designation, same thing. What's the access hole on the front for? If I had to guess a date, I'd say prewar but after the 20s.

yes it does still work- I've had it awhile and its been stored away a few years. The post about the Ohio Tuec made me think of it. I notice mine says New Philadelphia on it and the Ohio says Canton. I think they do kinda resemble each other. however the Ohio has the switch on the side for the handle to start it when brought down to the to the vacuuming position and my America has the switch on the back of the motor with a pull chain. I just can't explain the no patent numbers or dates as on the Ohio.
I do have a video on youtube of it in operation I took several years ago
