My grandmother had this vacuum cleaner and it was in great working order for at least 35 yrs. The hose was replaced because it developed serious suction leakage and there was no availability of a local vacuum repair shop, so we ordered a replacement hose from Sears that contained instructions in removing the fittings off the old hose and how to attach the fitting to the new hose. It took about 30 min. for my dad and I to complete and make my grandmother very happy. The cleaner was purchased by her oldest son that died in an automobile accident a few months after I was born. The only small appliances she owned and used were this vacuum and a Sunbeam self lowering toaster that he had also had given her. I enjoyed helping here during my visits using the various nozzles on her floors and furniture. We never used the cleaner in the upright position in the center of to rooms. The hose provided would never have reached to corners of the room when used in that manner, it was used while lying on its side.
