Did anyone notice that Aerus has updated their web site with the new models. At least the Lux STILL looks like an Electrolux and they are designed and built in the United States. I don't know if this is true for all their products but the tank type machines say they are designed and built in U.S.A. and they still have a Lux power nozzle and tools.
They claim 40% stronger air flow.

Thanks Rob for sharing this. A local Aerus Dealer told me they were getting rid of the plastic wands and going back to the metal...I guess he was wrong.

Just like Hoover in the early days, all three vacuums offered have the very same motor, same air flow, just a difference in design and filtering.

Personally, give me the Clasic, some metal wands for the bare floor tool and the sidekick and I would be happy. I don't like the plastic electric wands on the other two models.

Wow, its about time they updated their website. I just checked it the other day and it had still not been updated. The new Gaurdian and the Legacy have the same "airwatts" rating, althought the Guardians motor is 10amps while the Legacy is 11amps. I thought that the new Gaurdian would have a higher rating as it has a stronger motor. I'm still not impressed by the new Gaurdian, I dont understand why Lux doesnt fit their newer motor and HEPA filter into the Legacy. I have an Epic 6000 and they certainly could squeeze a filter in under the tool cady. I prefer having the tools stored on the machine, not on the wands. The design of the Legacy/6500/6000 has been around for close to 20 years now and its still very functional. The machine is light weight, easy to manuever, and in my opinion good looking. I had the 6500 a while back and if it had a more powerful motor and a less bulky hose handle and wands, I never would have gotten rid of it. It saw a lot of use and never skipped a beat. I would love for Lux to find a way to make their machines more quiet, especially since machines in the price range, like Miele, pride themselves on making quiet running machines. The older Luxes were much more quiet and their motors had such a nice sound to them, guess they just don't make them like they used too!

Guardian-Legacy-Classic = Same Motor

All three Aerus Canisters have the same motor. It's a single stage motor made by Johnson Electric. I too noticed on their spec sheet that there's a typo error for amps amongst the three. Roughly 10 amps for the motor, then add another amp or more for the pn, which brings us to the 11-12 amp range.

The suction is about the same as in the past, but the airflow has significantly improved.

One downside, the noise factor. If anyone thought the previous models were a little noisier than you'd like, ear plugs should be supplied with these models.

You are absolutely right! The handgrip and wands are Tri-star as well. I don't find the hand grip very comfortable, but that's just my two cents worth.

Motor

I may have misunderstood from the previous thread here a few months ago, but I thought the Guardian Ultra was going to have a newer more powerful motor. They certainly could use some more powerful suction.

There are also some other interesting things on the web site too. Apparently they have a new model history page, although it still links to the old PDF. For some reason they painted large areas of the model 30 gray (including chrome - just awful), and they put the model G facing backwards.

New Luxes

I was kind of disappointed with the lack of innovation in the new designs. When I was at my local Electrolux shop a year ago, I asked when the new models would be released. They said the economy was slowing things down. I wonder if the economy didn't drive them away from the larger Guardian with a 28' cord and the box hepa filter on top? I really like a longer power cord and appreciated not having the cord reel up like a window shade. It is almost like they abandoned the design because it was too fancy and expensive to build--like they abandoned the LX in the 50's.
I might have to lower my standards. I like having a machine that works year in and year out and will stand up to falling down the stairs and other bumps.
And my last gripe. What is with the adaptor for using the dusting brush/upholstery tool combo? That seemed to me to be a short-term fix when they went to plastic wands. Now, it is ten years later, and that adaptor is still being used. What happened to good design?
I am learning a lot reading all of your comments. Seems I might have to try out some other brands!

European Lux line of vacs.....

From what I remember reading, the Lux line of vacs in Europe was the division of Swedish Electrolux that sold vacs door-to-door. It is now a large international direct-marketing vacuum company, which includes the strangely-named "Eureka-Forbes" vac company in India.
