Breaking news!!!!CLACK_CLACK as on the old teletype machine.-The Lux man visited me and I pulled the trigger on a Aerus-Lux Platinum canister.Really like this vacuum.Like the idea of the long hose and the one for older or standard attachments-may see if the dealer here has BOTH!!Many times a long hose is handy. The powernozzle on this new one is QUIETER-doesn't have the racus noise of the old one.Has LED headlights-not the weird blue ones-but warm color. The standard hose would let me use my Volt powernozzle.A note this vac is so powerful--you CANNOT use paper bags in it.The factory put a blue paper bag in the machine. In the box was a package of Filtrete bags-after a day of "maiden" vacuuming-the paper bag had a few holes in it.Some slight amount of dirt on the brand new hEPA filter behind the bag.Use another vacuum to clean out the dirt. Then put in a FILTRETE bag-and the machine had even MORE power!!!Used the SideKick111 on my dusty old couch-Did a GREAT job!!!!Also this machine came with 2 "Guardian Angel" airpurifier units. They have UV LED lights inside. Will see how this does.Happy with this purchase!!Its among my Kirbys and MD central vac-A Favorite!!!The machine itself is VERY quiet-just the sound of the air going thru it!

I am with you Gary. I only used my Platinum for a few months and stored it back in its original box. I have always preferred the original wands, hose and power nozzle on the Metal bodied canisters and even the Lux Plastic bodied canisters. I won a Aerus Classic off of Ebay NIB and only took out the hose, wands and power nozzle to use on my Lux 7000 canister and I already had a sidekick that works with it. I just might have to get the black hose that we saw and then I can get the Platinum back out. I bought mine when they first came out and as I understand it they made some improvements, like the bag change light that just comes on when full instead of shutting the machine off. Now it does what it should have from the beginning....bag light comes on and shuts off the machine. Oh well that's what happens when new designs come out, I should have waited a little while......

With that said, my go to Electrolux is still my Commemorative Edition which came with the old style hose, wands and sidekick. In my opinion, that was the last of the best Metal Bodied Luxes.

When the bag is full on my Platinum, only the light comes on...the machines does NOT shut off. I don't know why they changed it this way but I guess they got enough complaints that they went back to also shutting the machine off. Does your Platinum run without a bag in place and the bag door open? Mine does but I don't know if it is supposed to or not. It has always worked this way from the day I took it out of the box.

I had an AP280 with the style of hose the same as your Commemorative Edition. What I didn't like about the hose was that it was so stiff as well as the extra long collar on the nozzle end.

Gary,

Yes, I believe it does.

On the hose, I bought two aftermarket vinyl hoses to use the old style wands and nozzle. One for the plastic Lux 7000 and one for the Commemorative edition metal bodied. They were very high quality hoses and that was several years ago......they still both work well. I only tried the woven hose to make sure it worked. I am like you, I don't like the woven hoses as they tend to leak. I had a Marquis and had to vacuum behind a water bed with the sidekick, the hose eventually started to leak as I had burgandy carpet and going up the stairs the hose would leave a dusty mark once in a while, therefore I started from the top down to eliminate that problem. No more woven hose for me....

I only used the woven hose on the Commemorative to make sure it worked, it is still hanging in the closet, new. I also hang all my hoses up on two rubber coated hooks in my vacuum closet to prevent premature wear.
