Ok so a family member asked if I would clean two vintage chairs for her and of course I said yes! Now that I'm looking at these chairs I'm not sure I know the right way to clean them....I do have a Bissell little green machine, but I'm not sure if its safe to use on this kind of fabric. Any advice on what type of cleaner/machine to use would be greatly appreciated!!!

Use a Kirby...

...first in canister mode with the upholstery nozzle (or Zipp Brush if you have it), then switch to blower mode with the Suds-O-Gun (also known as the Portable Sprayer.) Test the Suds-O-Gun in an inconspicuous area before going over the rest.

Hope this helps...

I second that……….

Recently I purchased an upholstered antique chair from a nearby thrift store and used the Kirby to shampoo the chair. It came out looking great! I used a scrub brush to work the foam in and to remove stains. It doesn’t take a whole lot of foam to do the job.

Unfortunately

I don't have a hose for my Kirby. I think I still have the Suds-O-Gun upstairs in the storage room, but will have to try and find it. I'd also have to order some Kirby shampoo. Thanks for the feedback I'll see what I can do about finding a cheap hose somewhere and some shampoo.

I just remebered

that I still have the hose. The problem is the little plastic tab on the end of the hose that pushes in the safety switch on the vacuum in order for it to run has broken off. Does anyone know if its possible to just replace the plastic hose end instead of buying a whole new hose?

The Suds-O-Gun works with the blower mode, as you wouldn't want to suck shampoo into the vacuum :o)

You'll need the air intake cap over the front of the unit, and the hose over the exhaust (in place of the bag.)

EDIT: To vacuum it first, you could use another vacuum.

Thanks

I do know how to use the Kirby in Suds-O-Gun mode. :) I have the air intake with the Suds-O-Gun just have to find them. Also need to track down the zip brush. My Kirby G5 isn't my daily cleaner since I've got hardwood floors, but it really does come in handy for things like the Suds-O-Gun and the carpet shampoo system witch I do use.

Shampoo recomendations

What brand of shampoo do you guys recomend for uphostery in the suds o gun and other vacuum sprayers with suds attachmends?
Thanks for your input.

Damien & Kirby shampoo...

Hello Damien.

Noah is correct in suggesting to use genuine Kirby shampoo.

If it is mixed properly & used correctly, there is no sticky or harmful residue when shampooing is completed. (Contrary to occasional opinion.) It then dries to a real fine powdery dust, which would be vacuumed up AFTER it is DRY. ~lol~

Cheers & hagn/d all,

Bill
