And ...
don't brush too briskly. I too have always been concerned about teeth care, from young adult hood on.
As a teen my teeth started hurting. My parents weren't firm in teaching and insisting that we brush, and as kids do, we didn't .
As a teen my teeth started hurting, so I learned to brush daily. And I do 2-3 times a day.
My big thing has been learning to be more gentle, not brush too hard. That can damage the tooth, the gums, and the brush. Brush gentle, a spend time on each section of teeth. One should be spending about 5 minutes moving the brush around.
Also, diet plays an important role in maintaining not only one's teeth, but their health in general.
No alcohol, smoking, carbonated beverages (soda), avoid a lot of sugary foods, no illicit drugs, monitor prescription drugs as they can be dangerous, and avoid a lot of greasy and meaty foods.
Yes to fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, water, and similar natural foods.
And remember, teeth are like fingernails. They do grow back. As bad as the disgusting picture above is, that mouth could be salvaged. With proper diet and cleaning, those teeth can come back.
Finally, in the U.S. anyway, Dentists do NOT have all the answers. The A.D.A. is not up to date in it's teachings of dentists. Our dentists are often only as good as what they are taught. Many mean well. Some only want to drill and fill. They often aren't interested in seeing people improve their diets or hygiene practices. Some realize they can make more money by simply drilling and filling, and applying tooth whitening agents.
Unusually White teeth are not necessarily clean teeth. And teeth that are slightly off-white (normal) are NOT dirty teeth.
