When I copied that image of the belts and vacuums for the Eureka Princess thread, I did not copy the back. Here it is. This list and illustrations of Eurekas and their bags is from approximately the early 80s, but I included it here because most of the machines shown are much older. A good Eureka history. Unfortunately, no model names, though most of you know what these are....

Here is my attempt to match the bag letters with model names

Bag "O" = Crown Princess with on-board hose storage
Bag "H" = Princess, Princess II, mini Roto Matic from the 1970's
Bag "M" = Empress
Bag "W" = Whisk hand vac (also will fit the GE version, I guess)
Bag "J" = 1950's Roto-Matic
Bag "B" = Sweet Sixteens (Model Series 1600), and Series 1200 Power Teams, "Ironsides", Quiet Kleen
Bag "C" = Mighty Mite (first version only - not Mighty Mite II or III)
Bag "S" = Empress II "Fast Vacs" (Model Series 1800 and Empress II Power Team (Series 1200), some earlier 1600's
Bag "E/R" = Hand Vac, Whisk, Quick-up
Bag "K" = 1950's and 1960's Super Roto-Matic
Bag "L" = Mobile-Aire, VibraBeat, Parnall Tenten in UK (Model 1000 series)
Bag "V" = 1980's Express Power Teams
The Famous "F & G" Bag! = all "fan-first," "bag-in-the-back" uprights including Dial-A-Naps, Rugulators, Vanguards, ESP's, 1900 Boss, Sanitaire Commercials, and "Automatics" and "Super Automatics" (Model Series 200, 2000, 2300, 1400 and 1900)
Bag "Z" = Ultra Upright
Bag "A" = never knew this existed! As discussed, a narrower version of "F & G" for all soft bag in the back uprights
Bag "P" = Emperor Upright made by Panasonic in Japan
Bag "D" = Series 100 Stick Vacs

BTW, that kewl, groovy 1960's ad for the Eureka Easy Glide on the other post is advertising another Panasonic machine made for Eureka and is basically Eureka's version of General Electric's lightweight electric carpet sweeper. The puny bag is in the base along with the small suction motor. I don't really know why they put a plastic Hoover Concept-like cover on the handle, unless is is just to hide the cord hooks.

Hope this helps the discussion!

Still would love to see proof that a Eureka "Prince" canister vac existed...anyone?

EP Brian

I'll see what I can do to find a picture. This might be a difference between what was sold in the states and in Canada. I remember the "Eureka Prince" being a tee-tiny little canister, smaller than the Princess. I believe it was the lowest of the low budget canisters. It looked like the Princess from the front, but it was more rounded and shorter in the rear. One thing I remember is that the carrying handle was welded to the center of the lid. That's all I can remember.

Thanks for posting the above Eureka cross-reference chart, John. It would seem as if there is a wealth of information on vintage Hoover cleaners still out there, Eureka, not so much. Wonder how many of these disposable bag styles are still being produced? I have the nutmeg colored Eureka Ultra, which takes the Type Z, and I'm afraid availability is on borrowed time. Are "A" bags still available anywhere? I'm wondering if they could be used in the earlier Hoover Convertibles with the narrow exhaust neck? I like F & G bags even better than the Hoover Type C's in the later bottom-fill machines. In that way, Eureka was definitely ahead of Hoover.

And it wasn't just Eureka.....

Singer and Hamilton Beach also had top-fill bags with the separate tube extension. I can remember as a child seeing the Glamorene bags that was described on the package as "Fits most uprights (except Hoover)". This is because Hoover wasn't using a top-fill design.

I don't ever remember

....seeing the Eureka "A" bags. Complete mystery to me.

Luxlife: What your describing as a Prince sounds an AWFUL lot like the small Princess. Had the welded handle but looked smaller and squatter than the illustration in the "H" bag category. I think it was baby blue?? JL

Eureka Mini canister with the welded handle on top....

John - yes I think you are correct about this smaller Princess. I think we even have an ad for this design in our stock of "Vacuum of the Day" photos (can one of the moderators bring this up to our thread here?). It originally came out in that famous 1960's Eureka turquoise/aqua, but the design went on to sport such colours as bright yellow, red, royal blue and even white or beige for some department store versions (Eaton Viking in Canada, JC Penney in the USA). I even remember Eureka wiring one up with a Roto-Matic power nozzle! But in all cases, I never saw the name "Prince".

The mystery continues.....

Eureka Z bags....

Karl - if it helps in your search for Z bags, Eureka made a very popular version of the Ultra upright for the Canadian Hudson Bay Company department store. By the time the 1980's rolled around, and by the time Eureka was selling this great Ultra upright, the Bay's private label name for appliances was "Beaumark" (it was "Baycrest" before that). So if you need to find this on ebay, you can include the "Beaumark Ultra upright" in your search.

Hey Brett - good idea!

I just googled "Eureka Prince" and you are correct...there was one! If you look at the link below, you will see the famous ad for the first tapered Princess with the handle on top. But the last line of the ad says: "And be sure to see the new Eureka Prince (it's the Princess PLUS!)

So now we know that this model name did indeed exist! Now I would love to see what it looked like....

If any one needs

I have genuine P bags for the Panasonic made thing. At one time I had like 30 packs of them or more. I put them on ebay a few years ago but no takers. If I can fine what I have left would anyone be interested in them?? I have no need for them.
You wait and see, I will get rid of them all and then I will find one of these machines and wish I had some bags left.
Maybe I will keep at least two packs. lol

Thanks Brian. I'll have to remember that. Here in the states, there aren't that many Ultras left, I was fortunate to get the attachments with mine. As of now, I get them from a local hardware store that still carries bags for older models. On the top rack (covered with dust lol) they even have a few packages of bags for the Sunbeam Courier. I'd love to find the Eureka that takes the Type P bag. Looks a little like the Westinghouse Converto Vac.

Hi All!! Since we've all been talking about the Eureka Prince here, I decided to post some pics of a machine I have that I think might be it. Here's the front of the vac, with tools.
