Whirlpool bathtubs only appeal to niche audiences because the general public thinks they are a waste.

Also, the ownership of a whirlpool bathtub when it doesn't get much use has one asking themselves this question: what's the point?

You have people like my mom who like having a bathtub, which means she is old-school.

Not completely dead!

I rent a cabin up in the mountains and it has one! I don’t really like it. When I’m taking a bath personally I want a little peace and quiet. Not some jets whirling around. If I wanted that, I would go in a jacuzzi.

Jacuzzi is a brand name. And not all jets are loud. Also, I think you mean a hot tub. And I'm not talking about the movie Hot Tub Time Machine, but that's neither here nor there.

Depending on how much jets are in the tub and where they're at, I think they're useful. My house has a couple and our last cabin we've owned before had one as well. In addition, we also have a hot tub. Personally, I think hot tubs are more of a waste. Extra maintenance, need to put chemicals and have to get it right or it'd cause some skin problems, breaks down more, pricier, etc. If you don't like the jets, you can just simply not use them.

If

You have a hot tub and you have muscle aches(i do) there not bad on maintenance as long as you keep up with them.
The stand alone tubs have their place. Being a plumber the only way to move them consists of the use of a sledge hammer.
The newer tubs are alot easier to move.

Keeping the whirlpool jets is not hard, all it takes is hot water above the jets, the right amount of Oh Yuk, the jets running for 30-60 minutes, draining the tub, cold water above the jets, and the jets running again for 30-60 minutes. It's so easy, even a child can do it.

I'm fully aware that air tubs tend to be more hygienic. I tried to tell my mom about that, but she wouldn't believe me.

Jacuzzi shoe storage

My parents had a jetted tub in the master bath of the last house they owned. There was also a separate shower. The novelty of the thing wore off after a few months, and for the next 18 or 19 years, Dad used it to store his shoes.

I like my jetted bath tubs. Used one of mine almost daily, in fact I just used it again yesterday. As for being a pain to clean and work with, I've found my experiences the complete opposite. Both of mine are still running fine to this day, even outlasted my hot tub which continues having it's pumps replaced. How I maintain them is I simply fill the tubs up with hot water and pour some bleach in, run a 15 minute cycle, drain, then fill it up again with cold water and run another 15 minute cycle to rinse all jets out, and drain them again. In addition to scrubbing the rest of the tub with Lysol wherever the bleach didn't get to. Never fails me. I even took the challenge of deep cleaning my grandparent's 1980's bathtub last Thanksgiving which hadn't been used in years and probably has never had a deep cleaning before. During the bleach cycle, saw a bunch a dark flakes coming out and I even gave it additional time. During the rinse cycle, never saw anymore coming out. At least in my opinion it's not so bad taking care of jetted tubs. I know maintaining my hot tub is more work and I'm even scheduled to do a 6 month deep cleaning this Saturday. Draining it out, scrubbing it down, filling it back up, put in chemicals and brand new filters, and cleaning the whole gazebo out by hosing down everything.

Actually, you're better off using Oh Yuk because bleach can ruin the seals and bigger problems arise from that. That is something the companies do not mention.

I've been using bleach for over 10 years now, never had any issues. It appears Oh Yuk isn't worth the extra because I've just read some reviews online that while that stuff works, bleach does do a better job.

I personally wouldn't use any kind of detergent if they cause excessive suds in the tub. Vinegar I've read is a good alternative to bleach.

Bleach eats rubber seals and gaskets, erodes and weakens some plastics, and it will irritate your skin in large amounts. I wouldn't use it.

I believe I used Fabuloso many times to de-mold my washing machine when it had mold buildup. It foamed insane amounts and made a mess with soap suds, but it got everything clean and removed the mold smell.

I'd love to have a hot tub in my yard surrounded by a wall of evergreen bushes. But no way to do that.

If

You think about it jets on left side are connected. The jets on the right are connected. If you have a detachable shower head you put it where the each jets outlet is. You spray each one with hot water. This will clean and sterilize each jet.
Then you fill it up the tub and run the keys for a few minutes.
Then drain the tub and use scrubbing bubbles to clean the fiberglass tub. You wash it off maybe use a microfiber towel and dry it off.
That's how I've done our jetted tub and imo is the best way to maintain for longevity.
I've had ours 20 years.

That ain't how you do it. What you are supposed to do is fill the tub up with hot water above the jets, pour in the right amount of cleaning agents, run the jets for 30 minutes, drain the tub, refill the tub with cold water, and run the jets for another 30 minutes, then you drain the tub and wipe it down with a rag.

It is so easy to do, even a child could do it.
