I want to buy a 1935 Singer R-1 upright vacuum cleaner.

Condition can be Working (preferred) – OR - Non-working

See photo below for example.

I am new to vintage vacuum collecting (two months and counting).

I have one. I'd sell for the right amount. They are very rare. General Electric made them for Singer. The brush roll turned backwards so it doesn't seize the fringe of the area rugs of the time.

Thanks for your reply to my wanted post.
I have heard how rare this vacuum is to find so I appreciate your message.
I just bought one today and so I will be deleting my post shortly.

Thanks Jim for the two photos of your Singer R-3 upright. It is beautiful and shines like a mirror.

Thanks also to Kirbyvacuum and Electrolux137 for your nice postings.

I am not sure what’s next – I want to keep my collection small and my taste in vintage vacuums runs more toward bright, shiny deco/streamlined uprights.

I guess I will know what’s next when I see it.

Air-deco styling

Kevin,

Here is a picture of my art-deco style polished aluminum vacs. The Singer R3, the Eureka model M, and the Kenmore Imperial. All the vacs in my collection are polished aluminum. No paint or plastic. Also pictured is my Kenmore Automatic that also has the air-deco styling and look.

Thanks for the additional vacuum photos.

Kenmore has been off my radar (but I have heard collectors mention the dual headlight model that you showed -- and it sports a nice bag).

I will do some Youtube and Google searches and see what other vacuum models Kenmore made during the mid- to late-1930s.

Your Kenmore Automatic model is striking.

Kevin
