Is Sebo X7 really good?

We’ve just got a brand new Sebo X7 and I must say it is a bit weird.
The bag chamber doesn’t seem to be closing tightly. It does get tighter when the vacuum is on but doesn’t seem as firmly locked as on other vacuums.
What bothers me the most is that air seems to be leaking where hose enters bag chamber and where hose connects to the wand. While using the wand the hose constantly keeps “jumping” which is really annoying.
It does seem to clean visible dirt well, not sure about deep clean though.
We’ve only vacuumed the house once and there’s already some hair wrapped around it. Despite the ease of removing the brush roll, it will probably get annoying.

I have an X7 and have NO problems with it.You should return your vacuum to the dealer and point out the problems.

I have noticed sometimes when I’m using or demoing an X7 to a customer I can hear a whistle from where the hose goes into the wand and no matter what I do I can’t seem to make it stop. The bag doors sometimes don’t seem to go on that well but typically I put the owners manual and extra bag inside the bag compartment on our floor models so that’s why it seems to not seal so well. That could possibly also be the whistling I’m hearing. Just thought of that as I’m typing. I will have to experiment with that once I get to work.

In reply to the original poster, I have to agree - I have the same red model. It is an unremarkable machine, and I am just not impressed by it.

The hose is far too short, and whether it clicks into the usable locked position within the wand, much depends on the whims of the machine. I've had it locked, unlocked and it even jumped straight out of the wand a few times. The top mounted hose I find incredibly annoying - I feel there's a need for a lower anchorage point for the hose, like the Hoover 'Turbopower 3' or 'Purepower' hook & loop hose restrainer.

I wish the X7 wand was a telescopic one too.

Stability using the hose is actually quite a hassle. Not safe, and you need to be three-handed to hold the wand, hose, and cleaner.

Carpet cleaning I find, is annoying and unsatisfactory. I have to keep going over the same section as the auto-height keeps jacking upwards, when it should be doing the opposite. Carpet cleaning takes about twice as long as with other machines. I expected better from this machine.

Brushed edge-cleaning is on one side only.

The flexible squeegee blade behind the agitator cavity, I removed. It was acting like a brake against the carpet, increasing the friction. It was ridiculous. The old Hoover and Electrolux machines never needed such a thing.

I actually find that the X7 handle is too tall, making it awkward to turn in narrow spaces. A Hoover 'Purepower', I find, is much more manageable.

And then there is the missing 45° handle lock on the X7, making skipping over rug fringes and threshold strips more of a problem than it needs to be.


The only whistling I get from mine, is with the machine upright, and the wand in position. There seems to be an air bleed slot on the underside of the chassis, in the vicinity of the dirty air path swivel joint. I'm assuming the idea is to provide a reversed airflow to suck wearing grit and fluff away from this swivelling part.


Would I buy it again? No, I would not.

Would I recommend it to anyone? No, I could not. And that's the honest truth.

Personally, I think they are good vacuums. They're not perfect, no vacuum is. But I don't think anything would stop me from buying or recommending one to anybody.

I agree with panasonicvac, I too think they are very good machines. I recently acquired a G4 (the G series is basically the same as the X series except it has a manual height adjustment), and it has strong suction, strong airflow, and just feels like a well-built vacuum overall. My G4 seems to clean deep down in the carpet, but that might be because of the fact that the manual height adjustment lets me go deeper into the carpet than the automatic one does. I tried a couple of automatic ones out in my local vac shop before I bought mine, and they seemed to work good. However, my house has some pretty thick pile carpet, while the store had very low pile carpet, so I can’t really speak for the automatic models. I’ve heard that they don’t allow you to go as deep into the carpet as the manual ones do, but I haven’t ever used an automatic one on thick pile carpet, so I can’t say for sure. Just my 2¢.
