Comparing the two vacuums, I have to say they had it right 40 years ago. The newer machine it too bulky, cheaply made and very cumbersome to use. The perfect machine would have kept the same basic design, left the tools in a box and used a better grade of plastic like Sebo has done. I really love the original design more and wish they would have used its size and not overloaded the machine with tools.

Not a fan of the Miele behind it, also too bulky and heading to Craigslist.

Our Dial A Matics

set the pace for so much. That agitator is great on carpets with fringe. It never gets stuck. The handles cold have issues. But, it revolutionized vacuum cleaners.

The tool hookup and suction AND tools are soooo good.

I have about 10 different units. I also have about 5 Windtunnels. IF I had to choose only ONE.........................................

Things could've been ALOT different....

If Hoover didn't sell their clean air patent to Panasonic. While the Concept One is far superior build quality to the Windtunnel, going back to the dirty air system was taking two steps forward, three steps back. Granted the Concept worked well, but the DAM was a more innovative machine. Sad there was never a Dial-A-Matic II with the handle problem solved.

Hmm

The Hoover on the right is better. I literally seen one 5 hours at a thrift store/habitat for humanity. Its power drive switch wD broke off. If I knew it worked I would've gotten it. It was $5.

In my game room there is currently a 1920's coffee can Hoover 700 series and a Hoover Z400 just hanging out next to each other lol

Also I have one of those early DAM vacs with the Power Drive - I do believe it weighs twice as much as a Kirby! You get an incredible workout just carrying it!

I really loved the Hoover Self Propelled WindTunnel Ultra I got my parents for their anniversary about 15 years ago. It was great for a large single level condo with acres of deep plush wall-to-wall carpeting and a large entryway covered in polished marble flooring (it was easy to turn off the brush roll for bare floors). The “windtunnel” channels in the brushroll chamber really work!!! And the self propulsion made it really effortless to clean all that carpeting. I really think it’s a great design by the folks in North Canton!
