Kenmore stick vacuum

Can anyone tell me anything about this particular stick vacuum by Kenmore? I wanted to get a vacuum for a family member for daily quick pick ups, but the Oreck pod (which I have) is still too expensive. I haven't been able to see this stick vacuum in person at a local Sears, but if anyone has any thoughts, let me know. It has fairly positive reviews, at least on Amazon.

Granted, I know stick vacuum typically will not clean like a corded machine, but it would be used for in between cleanings.

One thing that attracted me to this particular model (similar to the Oreck) was the wall docking station and the ability to use the vacuum without having to hold down an annoying trigger button to operate. There was a mention in the FAQs regarding run time, but not sure if the answer actually came from the manufacturer. 18 minutes (low setting) and 10 minutes (high) do not seem very impressive at all.

There's a green version too. I've seen the blue one at the Sears here but I haven't tried one out yet. Do you know who makes them?

When Panasonic dropped their vacuum line, Sears partnered with Cleva to make their vacuums. Cleva (a Chinese company) also purchased Eureka. You can expect this cordless vacuum to be on par quality and performance wise with the likes of cheaper economy brands. Take what I am saying with a grain of salt though, I haven't seen nor used this vacuum, but judging by my past experience with Cleva its nothing special. In my opinion, you would be better off buying an Dyson V7, which surprisingly is currently lower priced. It will likely work better and be better built.

Hi Justin.

I figured the Kenmore wouldn't be anything special, but I'd rather buy one that does not require the user to hold down a trigger to vacuum. I understand the purpose (to save battery), but I wouldn't buy one that requires that. Also, after reading some of the reviews, folks complained that the Dyson gave no warning when the battery was going to die, it just turns off. I believe the Kenmore at least has an indicator to give an estimate of remaining battery power.

I may keep hunting around to find a better vacuum.

The Dyson has a battery indicator LED that will begin to flash about one minute before the battery dies.

Well, I guess that is better than no warning at all. There doesn't yet seem to be a best cordless stick vacuum around. I've looked through dozens of them. Oreck seems to be the closest with the pod concept and decent battery life, as well as indicators to show you when the pod needs to be replaced and battery life.

I want to say Cleva is probably a little better than other brands, because they're basically built on Panasonics designs and they use their engineers.

Plus Cleva made vacuums are sold in some vacuum stores, so with that in mind, I would say they must be pretty decent. Since most vacuum stores can't afford to sell total junk.

I would not pay anywhere for what these are selling on Amazon, though. I saw some on eBay for around the $160 range.

Are you sure it was Cleva who purchased Eureka? I thought that was the Midea Group, or is Cleva part of it?

You're right Cole, they want too much for it on Amazon and the Sears/Kenmore website. Maybe it will go on sale for Black Friday. I don't usually have an issue buying things like this on eBay, but if it ever breaks within the first year warranty, you'd be out of luck.
