I lived overseas a few years ago, and needed to buy some 220-volt appliances for my apartment. I was directed to a store in Toronto which sells 220 volt versions of appliances and PAL versions of video equipment and TV's.

It just occurred to me that there might be some vacuum afficianados in the UK and other countries outside of North America who might be interested in knowing about these 220 volt stores we have in every major city in North America!

Before I went overseas, I bought a really cool 220-volt Eureka mighty-mite II canister vacuum (they had appropriately labelled it the "World Vac"!!!) and at the apartment I lived in in Tel Aviv, I found a really neat 220-volt version of the Eureka 1489 Dial-A-Nap upright!

Each large city in North America has one or two of these 220-volt stores - New York has the largest selection with the largest inventories. I am sure that if someone is desperate for a 220-volt version of one of our North American vacs, one of these stores would ship it to them in Europe for a fee. Just search the web for "220 volt appliances" and add New York or Los Angeles or Chicago to the search and you'll find the websites for all the stores. Each website shows their catalogue of products so you can see which 220-volt vacs they sell.

Here is a link to a web-page from one of the 220-volt stores in Toronto - Sona Distributors. You could get yourself a 220-volt Hoover Elite there!!!! :-)

In Wash DC downtown-back in the 70's remember a place called "German Hi-Fi" they carried Telefunken products-the local dealer-I bough lots of tubes from them for my tubed Hi Fi gear I had at that time. They also stocked a small selection of 220V appliances-and they were also a Grundig dealer.was a neat place.Don't know if they are still around--this was 30 yrs ago!Loved seeing the Telfunken and Grundig radios and Hi fi gear there. Was so cool!
