2006 Eureka Altima 2991AVZ

This is an old find that has not been previously posted before. This is a 2006 Eureka Altima 2991AVZ that I got at Goodwill On 2/25/14 for just $12.50. It was during a 50% Off Senior Sale. I only have the one photo, as this was before I was a collector and took many detailed photos of my vacuum finds.

I don't care what anybody else says but honestly, I actually liked these machines. Better than the Bissell Powerforce bagless in my humble opinion at the time.

Yes, mine needs a restoration now (still have it) but when it was working it worked really well. They have a good weight to them (it seems to be rather close to a Kirby), they certainly do not "float" over the topside of the carpet. It will dig in. It can pull itself along the carpeting if you leave it parked. Good grooming and agitation as well. The downside to this was that dumb plastic screen cone, but once you get used to it you become a master at lining it up blind and can reattach it with ease. Also the bin is pretty small, so I often had to empty it 2 or 3 times when vacuuming. The people that do not empty their bagless vacs will find it impossible to use this one as it simply will not be stuffed.

The feather duster is more of a toy than anything useful, but I never was a fan of feather dusters anyway. This was one of the better bagless vacuums you could buy in the mid 2000's. I do not have the MSRP handy but I am sure it was quite over $100.

Agreed with everything you just said here. According to Walmart, these were sold for $69 (at least the yellow one) which I think was totally unbelievable for what they were back then because it's a steal if you ask me. I wished Sanitaire sold one of these under their brand. You should totally be able to restore it because they are so easy to service.

Oh wow, that's just about the same price my Eureka Powerspeed cost in 2016.

Sanitaire did sell some kind of Eureka bagless rebadge, but it wasn't this one.

and yes the restoration is not anything serious - just a matter of finding the parts. It needs the entire front wheel chassis and a HEPA filter based on my preliminary observations. How it lost the entire front wheel assembly I do not know, but without that, its stuck in a non-adjustable position. I'm lucky it still has the duster, for whatever reason these go missing.

These were good, but there was no seal around the HEPA filter on the exhaust. And the first Altima model did not have the plastic screen cone, instead there was a lid on the dirt cup with slits on top that carpet fibres and hair clogged up easily.

These had a strong motor for a mid 2000s machine.

These machines were super hated when they were still around. I mean yeah the design was pretty garbage, but the double stage motor made up for it, or is why the filters always get so dirty so quickly. I actually like this design of Eureka and even owned one before. At least me and my dad knew that you had to replace belts in a vacuum. And clean and change the filters. Too many people threw these away for belts breaking and getting clogged. There was even a bagged version which I prefer more. Since so many of these have been tossed in the trash they are sort of hard to come by, or maybe it’s just where I live? The newer Eureka’s are just copying the horrible Walmart Bissell exclusive machines. I believe TTI owns Eureka now so it’s not too much of a surprise. I’d love to get another altima if I ever find one that is still worth fixing. Or maybe new in box which I have seen, but it wasn’t my model that I had.
