Oh wow,,that brings back fond memories. I used to love to get my hands on any catalogs like this back then, and of course always went strait to the Vacuum Cleaner section, would read every word. Thanks for posting this!

Brian -

I remember that too. I used to sneak peeks at our new catalogs to see if there were vacuums pictured. We had an S&H green stamp showroom in our neighborhood, and I used to beg my mother to take me in there. What a treasure land!

YES! they really were a treasureland! Oh wow, you were lucky to have an S&H Greenstamp showroom in your neighborhood! My mother saved up for a sewing machine ( i think it was a Viking) with her S&H Greenstamps, and she DID get it,,i remember the big day when we went to go pick up the machine,,very exciting! Haha, jeeeesh, didnt take much to get us excited in those days.

My mother usually saved up for small appliances -- coffee percolator, waffle iron etc. One year she got a new Sunbeam Mixmixer Model 12, and she was so thrilled with it. She had the old Model 9 that they had gotten as a wedding present and she was happy to finally retire it with the gleaming new Model 12.

Oh yes,,,a new Sunbeam MixMaster was a VERY big deal! My grandma got one in 1950 as a Mothers Day present,,it sat on her counter for over 45 yrs, until she went to the rest home. Of course i took it when we cleaned out her house to sell. No one else wanted it, and i was NOT going to let it get thrown in the dumpster. It still had the Pyrex juicer attachment and all the equipment, plus the original instruction manual, not a scratch on any of it. That mixer was her pride and joy,,next to her Electrolux Golden Jubilee!
I had an electrician friend put a new cord on the MixMaster, and still use it for juicing oranges, and for mixing once in awhile,,gotta love an appliance that has lasted that long and still working. The motor still sounds good as new on all speeds.

I would love to have a KichenAid for the its power and versatility, but wonder which I would actually use more -- it, or my fabulous chrome Mixmaster Model 12?!

I have both

A KitchenAid Classic and a Sunbeam MixMaster (Brady Bunch vintage, Don't know the model number) and they are great mixers. I find myself using the Sunbeam for everyday tasks and the KitchenAid for more heavy duty chores. I like the way you can detach the head of the Sunbeam and use it as a hand mixer. Very versatile.
