Today I put a NOS Hoover bag system + HEPA type A bag on my 2005 18in Conquest. I now understand why this setup is desired over the dust cup option which came with my Conquest. It’s quieter, more powerful, and all with better filtration. Easy maintenance, too. Look, I like the dust cup, and I do think some people get dramatic about them—they’re really not that bad—but I admit that this is better. The dust cup system was a cool experience—this is the first vacuum I’ve had with one—but I don’t see myself reinstalling it.
I bought my Conquest locally for $35 early in 2023. I would’ve preferred the narrower model, but the Hoover Conquest was a dream machine of mine and I couldn’t pass it up. I gave it the full treatment: new 608 motor bearings on both ends, new rubber motor mounts, cleaned and repacked the intermediate pulley with Mobil Polyrex EM, enameled the exhaust gasket plate, new agitator, new belts, and new chassis (because why not). The rest of the parts looked good after a wash.
