Kirby fans are fairly easy to to replace, I use a small Philips after the fan housing with its 5 or 6 screws are out, and an old ice pick in the motor pin hole just above/bellow the motor fan in the powerplant housing to replace, as for nozzles, technically speaking you can use any power head...

got the "new" armature in the old one apon inspection looks like its the original one matching the 59 date code on the manual, the machine and now the armature, so not a bad life span for a vacuum

as for balancing you could try a lawnmower blade scale, granted if the blade is made or printed professionally it might already be pretty balanced also im seeing two different fans for the Elite, a 6 blade which was replaced by the 20 blade it seems [this post was last edited: 2/20/2024-14:58]

I got a quote from a local company here, for nylon carbon fiber, should put it on par with a kirby fan, so yeah there exists a means, its just a matter if  A how strong this will be, and the durability life prices are in CAD

does anyone know what the original fan for one of these units looks like?

now I know nothing about metal printing but pcbway has these options, now the one thing I will say, i have to agree making a new fan for an older machine might be a headache, another solution would be to look around for a fan that will fit and still work the vacuum even if not correct

now since I dabble in 3d printing, I've replicated the 500 series kirby wheels, im not sure what the RPM of the hoover elite motor is, I think the standard hoover fans today are ABS or something similar

I used to rebuild Sanitaires at the hotel I worked at, and every machine has that groove or melted spot on them, I didn't realize that style housing was used back in the 70s though, very simple and reliable machines for the most part, the only one I still have around is "the boss" all plastic...

Husky, Arent the 500 series Kirby's single speed machines?   But its just a mystery what would have worn this machine down so much, unless its not had a real servicing before I got it, I do have the original manual with it and its purchase date. If these machines had hour meters on them...

I have a hunch, I think this particular 519 may have ran on DC power, or just had a brutal life as ive never seen even in DC applications a motor this bad, maybe the brushes get low sure but thats expected, not the copper to wear down

the coils are fine, the armature is just looking bad, the machine still runs but Im concerned about it looking alot like this example, I've never seen a motor commutator this worn down, but this about the same condition of my 519's

will a d50 armature work in a 519? I can't seem to find anything anywhere for the OEM replacement style for a 519, my 519 the commentator is very badly worn down likely from its last owners, or if anyone knows which ones will fit in it, it would be appreciated as id like to keep this machine as...

there is a 519 listing of the accessories tools and powerhead out of Florida I see, any nozzle from 515-519 should work on it, the 509 I have is different as its not a flat sealing powerhead, it uses a beveled edge to seal it

you could, now I don't recommend this, but you can just bypass the nozzle safety switch allowing the 500 series to use any nozzle up to the the legend 2, I had to bypass my 519's nozzle switch as it was completely dead

wouldn't a shop vac motor filter work better? since you could cut it to size since its usually pretty long

So ive been looking for a replacement fan for my 509, the machine is 76 years old, and im ok with a more modern plastic or lexan fan, but will a 505 fan work on the 509? this is my oldest machine so i know very little on the 500 series

I did keep my stock bag config too, I just like the shakeout bag well my 509 and 519, but for finer stuff or very dusty stuff I will still use the micron magic bags, I got 50 of these for 5$ at a thrift store, funny enough since my 519 doesnt have a safety switch it is more or less my daily...
