What "FrankenLux" canister/hose mashup that you've seen has been the ugliest?

My Grand Marquise/Legacy/Ultralux has a Golden J/Super J hose, and my Super J itself has an Olympia hose. I think both of those look fine with the machines they're on. The colors are close enough to each other. However, I've sometimes seen a 1205 or blue Model L with an Olympia hose, and I can't...

Can anyone discern what year these 2 Luxes of mine were purchased, based on the customer's serial #?

@OldCraankmam SJs weren’t still in production in 1990. They were discontinued in the late 70s, when the Olympia appeared. Perhaps they bought it used? I also have a Grand Marquise/Legacy/Ultralux from them, and 1990 is about right for that one. 69 sounds right for the L though.

Can anyone discern what year these 2 Luxes of mine were purchased, based on the customer's serial #?

They were both purchased by my grandparents. Model L (blue): L-96961-L Super J: K-59087-T I know there's no way to decipher date codes by the product serial number, but can you do it from the Customer's Exclusive Serial Number? I've listed those for both vacuums above. My Diamond J, Grand...

A tour of the E’luxes of Candlewood

Barry, I just saw your location! My location here still says VA, but I'm in western MA too now (The Berkshires)! And very cool that you have 3 versions of the Epic 6500. I don't have an Epic, but back in VA I have the bright white/light blue/silver version of the Ambassador.

A tour of the E’luxes of Candlewood

Thanks Paul! I have actually since rethought how I kept the hoses, and have them flat on the floor now. Some people on the Lux FB page had voiced concern over how I had them before as well. I forget if the front hall Lux has the smooth or textured bag cover (GM or Legacy), but I will check...

A tour of the E’luxes of Candlewood

Starting on the old side, working our way upstairs and then down to the basement. Then over to the new side, working our way upstairs there. All 5 of these Luxes were formerly my grandparents’. It’s their old weekend house. The Grand Marquise/Ultralux, Super J, and Model L were all here...

    Electrolux Super J question

SJs were notorious for armature failure. If you can get a new armature, that would be the best solution without having to do a motor replacement. The 2100 and later would not fit in the SJ I think.

New (to me) Electrolux Ambassador 3

This is, in my opinion, the last true ‘Lux before they became Aerus. It is from 1999 or the early 2000s. A little prettier than my other Ambassador 3 (all gray, mid 90s), which I am looking to sell. Not the one that is one of the 5 I got from my grandparents - I have another gray one like it...

Which Eluxes match which Maytag washer the best?

Jon, What model is your 85 Tag? My 506 was built in March of 85, meaning it just celebrated its 37th "buildday." I don't think the Pitman trans were discontinued until 88 or 89, so anything before that is the best I'd say. They have such a smooth and relaxing sound compared to the loud one of...

Which Eluxes match which Maytag washer the best?

Jon, I like your perspective. The GM/Ultralux could be with either the 80s or 90s Tag, and the Ambassador with the 90s one. That would be my grandparents! They had the L, SJ, and center dial Tag! There definitely is correlation here - I think it was a quality thing! You hit the nail on the...

Which Eluxes match which Maytag washer the best?

Joel, I’m with you about the L and the 70s Tag, with not being the oldest of their kinds here. Same for the SJ. I’d personally put the DJ with the 80s Tag, as they are both from right around the same time. Probably the same for the GM/Ultralux. As for the Ambassador, I’d probably put it with...

Which Eluxes match which Maytag washer the best?

Here we have my Model L, Super J, Diamond Jubilee, Ultralux/Grand Marquise, and Ambassador 3 (all of which were formerly my grandparents’). As well as Maytag washers from the 70s, 80s, and 90s respectively. Which ‘Tag do you think matches which Luxes best?

My grandparents' Electroluxes at both houses

@ctvacman Their Luxes don’t have PNs, nor do mine. Neither of their houses have carpeted floors.

My grandparents' Electroluxes at both houses

Not totally related, but I thought many of y’all would also appreciate seeing their 2 Maytag washers. 1975 A107 is at their main house and is original to when they bought the house in 78. So, despite being the older one, it is the one that gets used more and has never failed. 85 A506 is at the...

My grandparents' Electroluxes at both houses

@human We definitely are, and that's where I get it from :). I think the Lux we had when I was little was also an Ambassador 3, but it was newer (I think the iteration that was white with silver/light blue trim). That's a great point about the hoses having been replaced; though the woven hoses...

My grandparents' Electroluxes at both houses

My grandparents have 5 'Luxes, and I wouldn't be surprised if they've had more over the years. At their main house, there is an Ambassador 3 in the front hall closet (there is also a blue L/1205 hose in this same closet). Upstairs, there is a Diamond Jubilee in the linen closet. In the...
