Potential New Kirby Vacuum Model Discussion

I'm not a collector, just a person who likes well-built machines that work can be maintained, and more importantly,  repaired.     When it comes to vacuum cleaners, companies are now making a huge deal out of functionally tiny differences, and then they're exaggerating those innovations to...

WOW....polishing a Kirby is a pain this arse.

I don't think it'll show up in a picture.  But there is a faint but clear line of demarkation between the metal that was under the plastic bumpers and the metal above.  It just tickles my OCD.   The parts are shiny.  I just find it curious that no matter how much polishing I do, the faint...

WOW....polishing a Kirby is a pain this arse.

I bought an Avalir for $60, it was working but looked like it'd been stored in a garage for a long time.  It was really quite dirty, and the metal bits had all lost their luster.     I took it apart to give it a clean-up and service and thought I might as well shine up the metal bits on my...

For Sale Vintage Kirby's in great condition

What is it worth? Doing a quick check of eBays it's a fairly big range ($50-$199) for units that have actually been completed resulting in a sale.  Most of them are completed listings that haven't sold, and the seller merely relists them.     So what is considered a low-ball offer?

Is that a replacement label? The ones I have are metal, like the vacuum in the first picture. I also have an older version that I'm going to use. It has a rounded flat lid, and the hose sticks inside the top.

Cool Beans ...I have two Revelation name plates hand! @vacuumman thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, and for putting me onto those name plates! Did they ever sell Revelation or Compacts with a polished metal body? It looks so cool.

Potential New Kirby Vacuum Model Discussion

It's a vacuum cleaner. The technology has matured. Most of the features that are sold today are simply bs.  I guess the robotic vacuums are the "new thing."  But manual vacuums are simple machines.  It's a mature product segment.     Make them dependable, durable, and simple to repair. ...

Potential New Kirby Vacuum Model Discussion

The door-to-door salesmen are selling these vacuums as the best, most perfect vacuum money can buy and will give a lifetime of service!   How would the consumer (not collector) feel about spending well over $1000 sometimes $2000, sometimes FINANCED, if major changes or upgrades were made...

Name the movie this vacuum cleaner was in....

Thank YOU! I swear I searched for Revelation Vacuum Cleaner back in the '00s and never could find a reference to the machine.  It was a half-hearted search, just because I like the look of that machine.     I just assumed it was a movie prop creation or modification.  Then I came here and...

Name the movie this vacuum cleaner was in....

I'll let you know how my experiment goes.  But I'm going to try.  I saw one Compact that was stipped and given a fairly high shine, not as good as that one, but still good (you could see swirl marks).  I have the equipment that I think I can replicate it.  It will probably take a lot of work...

Name the movie this vacuum cleaner was in....

1997's GATTACA The prop master took an old Compact Electra down to bare aluminum and gave it a very high polish.  The logo on the side is Revelation is very relevant to this particular scene of the movie.  I thought this little detail was pretty cool, and stuck with me for the past 25...

    Electrolux 1205 motor wanted

Then that's your problem.  Disassemble the motor and remove the commutator.  Then look at the one for sale on ebay and see if it's a match.     https://www.ebay.com/itm/254849846246?hash=item3b563c0be6:g:B~wAAOSwsPZgFMi1   You should be able to tell by the picture. That particular...

    TriStar DXL

Great machine.  I'm jealous of you guys, I don't think I've ever seen a TriStar down here. Not for that kind of money.  I guess they didn't sell as many in my part of the southeast.  They just aren't that common.  I can find Kirby's and Electrolux but never TriStars.

    Electrolux 1205 motor wanted

There were two different commentators for the 1205. The early motor had a short one, the later motor had a long shaft.  The seller mentioned above had both, but has since sold his short shaft.   The long shaft commentator didn't fit my 1205 motor, the short one did.  But my motor had the G...

Potential New Kirby Vacuum Model Discussion

If you use an inflation calculator and adjust to 2022 dollars, it looks like most top of the line vacuum cleaners sold throughout the years were in the $800 - $1200 range (in 2022 dollars).  I would say that maybe a new Kirby is worth something in that range.    I've no idea what innovations...

    Electrolux 1205 motor wanted

I have one I've rebuilt It has new brushes, I just want to replace the fan bearing to make it completely serviced.  It's not that the bearing is bad, I just want to go ahead and replace it while I have it apart.     It sounds like you may have a short on commentator (maybe).

    Filter upgrade tristar compact ?

I use automotive bearing pullers.  But I work on cars and motorcycles so I have a range of tools to pull apart bearings.    The small ones work well.  If you don't work on cars, you can pick up a cheap one for around $20.   However, some chain auto parts stores like AutoZone will rent and...
