    Old Kirby Wheel Replacement

Old Kirby Wheel Replacement To repairman, I used a small hacksaw and cut off the axle ends of the wheels and used 5/16 flat washers. if I tighten the screws all the way , the wheels will not turn. I would like to find that type of screw , but longer.

    Old Kirby Wheel Replacement

I just recently replaced the wheels on my 519 Kirby. I put wheel extension screws on the front with black large wheels which turn easily. The rear wheels are designed different from the original , but do not turn with the screws completely on. What is the size and type of screw for the...

    Shampooing Carpeting

The last time that I used a Kirby Rug Renovator, it did not do a good job. I have carpeting in my living room that really needs shampooing. I am thinking of trying a different method. Besides using the suds-o-gun to spray the foam onto the carpet; I was also planning to use the floor...

    Missing Kirby Sanitronic 80

Substitute For Kirby Rug Renovator A few years ago, I used my Kirby Heritage II with a Rug Renovator from a Classic model that I rigged so it activates the low speed. Needless to say; the effort was futile because it did not function as well as in the past. If I were to shampoo the...

    Kirby model 561

Using Kirby to clean air ducts Is there any way possible to use a Kirby to clean out air ducts, or isn't it equipped to take on such a task? That may save me from having an air duct cleaning service coming in my home.

    Kirby 562 in green trim?

Bronze colored trim It appears that the bronze color had seriously oxidized over a period of sixty years. It is similar to how copper turns green when oxidized.

    Road Salt

Is vacuuming road salt damaging to a Kirby, especially a much older one? I do not own a shop-vac, so Kirbys are all I own.

The WORST vacuum cleaners, Ever made. In History.

The Evolution (or De-Evolution) of Vacuum Cleaners In a nutshell, There was the Eureka Roll-Easy in the 50s, to the "Fall-Easy" today with its shoddy construction and tendency to "fall over" due to ridiculously short hoses.

    Kirby Heritage II commutator brushes

Follow Up on H II Kirby I have just ran my Kirby Heritage II in upright mode and it turned on. As I had mentioned in my previous thread; the high speed does not work at all. Is this due to the motor brushes needing replacing? Otherwise, has the speed-selector/safety switch given out?

    Kirby Heritage II commutator brushes

Two weeks ago, I used my Heritage II Kirby with the hose attached.I was noticing that it ran slightly slower than usual. The slowing of the high speed was. a sign , because now the machine will not turn on. I tried twirling the fan and firmly tapping the back of the motor unit in hopes that the...

If you could re-engineer any machine in your collection, what would you change about it?

Re- Engineer Older Kirbys The later 500 -series and early Sanitronics would have 2 speeds, handle fork more like Classic and later, longer hose and flexible shaft, suction relief valve on swivel hose end, disposable bag with fill-tube, more basic attachments, more Handi-Butler accessories,zipper...

Worn out hose end causing attachment slippage

So far, that special tape is working. The attachments and extension tubes fit firmly and do not slip off easily.

Worn out hose end causing attachment slippage

The swivel tube end had been replaced perhaps 15 years ago.

Worn out hose end causing attachment slippage

This is for a 519 model. The hose end is not the original.

Worn out hose end causing attachment slippage

I have a problem with the metal tube end of an older Kirby hose. Attachments and extension tubes slip off too easily when in use and does not grip well. In other words , the tube end is too smooth to hold any attachment for too long before they slide off. Rather than ordering a replacement end...

    Kirby Micron Magic Bags

Modification I ended up cutting the cardboard opening from the Style 3 (G3) paper bag. I used a slide type blade, then cut two slots, and gluing it to the opening of the new white hepa filter bag. This retrofit in my 519 Sani-Emptor now fits perfectly with a little bit of force to fasten it...

    Kirby Micron Magic Bags

I had recently purchased Kirby Micron Magic hepa filtration bags . The fill tube connection in my Heritage II and the same thing retrofitted in my 519 is a little too small to hold the bag to the cardboard opening. Has anyone else had this problem and what solution have they found?

    Kirby Handle Spring

So, I would guess that like a new shoe, it would have to break in. It would take general wear and tear for the pin to be more easily inserted and pulled out.

    Kirby Handle Spring

I have just had the handle spring assembly replaced. When this is brand new; is it normal for the handle bolt to be quite difficult to push in and pull out? I had to use a rubber mallet to fully insert it. Can the bolt or the inside of the tube where it inserts be lubricated? Any suggestions?
