Hornet Thanks again for the info. ! I haven't done anything yet with the motor...been way too busy at work. I will try the soft copper wire method along with some locktite that is not permanent on the hold down screw. See my photo #1.....The 2 screws seem to hold down brass tubes that the...

Exactly right Hornet After taking all apart, I see that the armature is making contact with the surrounding magnets. I will try your dowel method to align them. It appears to me that replacing the bushing may be impossible (for me anyway). The armature isn't real loose in the bushing but I may...

follow up I sanded the commutator with 1000 grit paper. Just about all the scratches are out. I very lightly sanded the magnetic bars but will leaves most scratches as I don't want to ruin it. I will test the armature with a multimeter and hopefully, will have no shorts or other problems. I'll...

Thank You Thanks to Hoover 300, getting the armature out was very easy. Now my final question......I cleaned the copper on the armature but I notice the part that revolves within the magnets (sorry, don't know what all this is called) looks like my dog got a hold of it. The magnets are also...

Follow Up I have the handle all done and the on/off switch works ! Good thing because I don't think it can be dis-assembled and repaired. I polished the snorkel (I call it) but it still has a haze on it......how do I get that out ? I haven't done the motor yet...I attached more pics of it...

Extremely Old Hoover, searching for details.

Very Very Cool I've never seen one before. The Edison plug was used when electricity was first put in houses ( the very wealthy had it first ). I'm guessing the machine dates to around 1910. I'll be following to see what others have to say. We have Edison outlets in our house....electricity...

Anyone having luck with estate sales in there area?

We attend Estate sales regularly and do see vacs but they are usually overpriced as are the other items at the sale. I did find 2 late 1800/early 1900 hand pump vacs that were marked as $ 75 each. I started a conversation with the gut running the sale and ended up getting both for $ 40. He said...

    Antique Doty bellows sweeper

I have one I bought a Doty at an antique mall for $ 50. I've read that they are rare but I doubt they are.....I've seen at least 5 for sale in the past 2 years. They are funny to use though. When you push it the wheels spin (of course) and make the bellows go up and down. An unusual design.

    Selling at Antique Malls?

Antique mall We had a spot at an antique mall for over 2 years. I did sell a number of vacuums and typewriters from my collection. I don't know if there was a vacuum collector that stopped in or if people wanted a vintage vacuum for their vintage house ? Yes, you may receive a 1099 for your...

    Hoover Convertibles

I was on Vacuumland a few days ago and drifted over to AutomaticWasher.org to see if anything was of interest. I saw a link to an online auction showing vacuums...the pick up was only 2 minutes from my house. I was the high bidder and picked them up yesterday. I think we are keeping the maroon...
