    Most unpleasant-sounding vacuum ever?

Me, too. As a young boy it bothered me a lot, probably because I am autistic and also because as a boy my ears weren't accustomed to hearing loud sounds yet. As I grew older, my fears for loud noises gradually subsided. ~Ben

What is the Weirdest Vacuums You've Seen?

Does anybody think Kirby's COMVAC line of commercial-use vacuums, in particular the CV1300 and CV1600, looked a bit weird? Both stood out for different reasons: 1. The CV1300 was manufactured using leftover parts from the 500/Sanitronic line, also shared with the American Lincoln Super-Sweep...

    Dream Kirby acquired!

Yes, the model number I see appears to match what you say -- a 519. However, let's have you take a picture of its safety switch. If it's one button only, then the model number would also be correct. But if it has two buttons on it, then it may well be a DS50. Plus, the 519 was the last Kirby...

    Dream Kirby acquired!

I have seen many Kirbys from the 516 up to the Sanitronic VII be re-trimmed in the same tan hue the VII used along with the 562 and DS50, so on some of the older pre-562 machines -- especially when rebuilt by local mom-'n'-pop vac shops in an entirely different color such as green (Dual...

    Royal prince hand vacuum

I hint the Kirby Classic Omega 1-CB's original motor bellhousing plastic was also black Bakelite, because it too had been subject to recall for replacement by the later and stronger white polycarbonate motor housing plastic. ~Ben

I need to know how to disassemble an older Kirby with the switch on the side.

What is the exact model number, please? Models 512 and earlier will have a toggle-type foot switch. Models 513, 514 and 515 will have the step-on push-button switch like the 516 and later models. ~Ben

    Royal prince hand vacuum

My 1982 Royal 501 has the original six-blade aluminum fan (1-157004-000) in it, but during 1983 or '84 they replaced it with the plastic one (1-502004-000) so we don't see many of these 501s out there with the aluminum fan. ~Ben

    New member from Michigan

Mark, I think your machine dates from 1977 to 1981. Here's a 1981 brochure featuring both it and the S1029 with the wheels (the S1029 first came out in 1979). 1981 was the last year these two used the original Dial-A-Matic motor unit (noted by the toggle switch as the on/off switch); it would...

    Free Montgomery Wards Canister Vacuum

Looks like this one dates to the early-to-mid-1970s, possibly a model SP-391A from 1972 or SP-319A from 1977. ~Ben

    My Eureka Model Data Thread

Nick, Thank you for making this! Yes, I wish that Eureka could have made such data available for us back in the day! I know Hoover did once, in the 1960s. ~Ben

Need help with a kirby 513 brushroll

Have you checked whether or not your brush roll's bearings have seized (as kirbylux77 said), or if your motor fan is broken (missing or chipped blades)? ~Ben

    Eureka Princess Canister TV Commercial

The 3320 had a long run from 1976 up to 1991, while the 3711A came out in 1981. The 3711 was dropped after 1985, being replaced during that year by the 3712. ~Ben

    Sanitaire Brand and Model History

Paul, This also makes me wonder if the current Sanitaire logo with the stylized "S" also first appeared that year? I'd love to hear from somebody who remembers buying an S639, S644, S646 or S648 in '82! ~Ben

    Sanitaire Brand and Model History

Paul, The first one would appear to be an S644 (based on the SC684) because of the Vibra-Groomer II. ~Ben

    Yesssss!

Another way to get the RD series belt to cooperate would be to soak it in warm water for a few minutes, this way you can stretch it out a little more. ~Ben

    Canadian Kirby 509

Midway through production of the 1951 model 511 (S/N 383346 and earlier had the riveted plate; S/N 383347 and up had the revised plate with screws). ~Ben

Kirby Classic III change to handle mount?

Edgar, Here is the exact link about David's 505. Originally, he was going to send in his 513/14/15 (the model tag on that one was since gone) to them but he shortly thereafter found the 505 on eBay and then he decided to focus on getting that rebuilt instead, which is why the rebuild agreement...
