    kirby bearing puller problem.

Seller descriptions are to be taken with a grain of salt - I know what you are experiencing. Most 'new' designs do not consider older models. I never bought the special puller, but instead made one out of scrap metal and random hardware. I have used it over a dozen times on 505s to G6's. There...

Hoover Celebrity Elite S3141 Goodwill save

Unit was dropped off at the Plaid Tag thrift store (Ave K & Park in Plano 75074) this afternoon, if anyone local wants it. They will keep it 'till it sells!

Hoover Celebrity Elite S3141 Goodwill save

Got this for 6 bucks at GW yesterday. Looked too cool not to get. And at cheap prices, I like to get things to see how they were made. I also like to compare other vacs to Kirby of the same period, to see the levels of quality and engineering. Given the 'made in USA' text, this machine must be...

Hoover U4313 curb save - fix or scrap?

SAVE! I figured this would have been the decision, lol... The more I looked at this thing, the more I liked it, and agree to saving it. It is a very simple and crude design but seemed like it worked well, given how many years this general design was made. Like Kirby I suppose, but much...

    dehumidifiers

When I had my house built in 1995, the hall bath had no fan since there was a window. Building code allowed this then. Like heck would I want to open that window when it is 110 outside! Often it is more humid outside than in the bathroom after a shower. Therefore I installed a fan. That...

Hoover U4313 curb save - fix or scrap?

Rescued this upright from the curb. Anyone know its exact age? Only reason I took it is that it is mostly metal and it ~could~ be a commercial model, given its intact 3-wire cord. The handle bracket is broke but has been cobbled together with scrap metal and bailing wire. It stays together...

    Kirby Ultimate G help

As said, they are easy to work on unless a screw head gets rounded out. That is a fine machine, especially after being cleaned up and polished. Here are some general repair tricks, some relevant to your series... https://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?34091 I have a G6 resto...

Working Kirby Classic III - as-is, or I can rebuild for you

I think the D50 only cost $75 to restore/ship to the original owner. My mom still has her original D50 with receipts and manual. I could have sent it in but I did not want the bag and trim replaced with black. So I did it all myself as a Christmas gift to her about 5 years ago. She is still...

A Tip on Using Kirby 301291 Belts w/Older Machines

Ben, Sorry for the delay. I checked my stock and only have a couple softies left as I only bought a 6 pack 5+ years ago from Kent Oyler's place. I should have got the 25 pack! Are they getting hard to find now? I have not looked lately. Once a new thick belt gets worn and starts slipping on...

    Kirby Accessories are kinda weird

Problem with metal fans is that they were cast - very brittle. The aerodynamic curves of the fan makes it difficult to use other material and MFG methods. People do not watch what they suck.. Coins and other hard objects broke the fans. The white plastic fan flexes enough to not break...

A Tip on Using Kirby 301291 Belts w/Older Machines

Warm water will soften it until it cooled, then it would probably go back to the way it was. If you replace the brush roll with the one with ball bearings, the thicker belts can be used, EXCEPT for units with plastic belt lifters - the thicker belt can cause you to break the belt lifter. I...

    Kirby Accessories are kinda weird

Keep in mind that some of the attachments, like the sprayer, handibutler and sander came out before these power tools became commonplace in the home. Many were gimmicks but some worked pretty well. Nowdays most are a bit out of place. Space seems to be at a premium today as well. Very few...

Working Kirby Classic III - as-is, or I can rebuild for you

last chance Hard to believe I still have this but it is getting donated this spring. If any local members here want it at no cost (as-is), just come pick it up. I already have a Classic III and I do not need a second. It is in the way in the garage. I can throw in a few resto trim parts...

    classic III bag install

ROLL the spring on with your fingers - do not try to pry it on. Works great.

    cloth emptor tube ?

Yes, cloth was used for Kirby fill tubes. I have one from a Heritage I had restored and the back side of it had the Chrysler logo, as if Kirby used surplus automotive vinyl fabric for cost savings. The smooth side was inside to prevent dirt from sticking.

Montgomery ward handvac switch reassembly issues

Yes, same setup as the Royal. I remember having a small issue getting mine mine back together but it was doable; I just cannot remember how i did it. It was a royal PITA until I found the trick. Do not give up, it is just a brain teaser... Hope the video helps.

    Kirby 513

Fading or change of color from UV exposure will not be changed by washing. And as Les said, washing could damage it more. I have a similar bag on a similar machine and I left it as is for that old look. I will not restore that unit. I do wonder where Kirby got their fabric way back then...

Does anyone know the name of pigtail plugs?

You could try to repair it IF you have the prong and the tools and abilities. Carefully cut open the body with a razor blade to find the wire that it connects to, solder it back on, and epoxy the prong in and the body together. Then refrain from unplugging it often if possible. I know this is...

Cutting HEPA bags to use as filters.

I think it is a great idea! Just make sure it does not limit airflow too much as those can be more restrictive than the OEM filters. Also check it periodically to see how dirty it gets, as it will capture much more than the OEM ones. Let us know how it does over time and use. Sometimes you...

    Oreck XL headlight bulbs

So did you figure out why they would not fit? They all look the same in the picture. Is the thin part of the wedge too wide or something? With all of the tolerance variations of stuff made offshore (and just plain re-engineering FU's), it is possible the bulbs you got were just made too...
