    Lewyt 1947 - 1960

The Lewyt Big Wheel is by far the most maneuverable vacuum cleaner I have ever actually used to clean with. It literally turns on a dime. And, they're very quiet.

    Early Dyson prototype.

You should've seen the machine. It was beautiful. Back in the old days, we had a vacuum cleaner convention every year. One year, we went to Kirby and filter queen. One of our members won a free defender air purifier in the raffle. We got to see the factory and how the machines are made. And we...

    Early Dyson prototype.

That was the machine he drug with him to Hoover in Europe and all the European and American manufacturers, showing the prototype. The red and blue one. He even took it to Filter Queen where they made a dual cyclone canister prototype, but sadly did not use it because it would have eliminated the...

    Early Dyson prototype.

James Dyson talks about the red and blue model in his autobiography extensively.

    electrolux ap 280 // health

Panasonic bought the manufacturing plant for vacuum cleaners from whirlpool in the early 1980s. It coincided with the change to type 5055 Bags and the top swiveling hose connection.

I have had two of them, and while they are rare, it was because they were very expensive and very complicated. The average woman would not have liked it. The dust cup is very fragile as is the plastic of the power nozzle neck. I'm sure they all broke right away.

    electrolux ap 280 // health

The first time I saw the ad for the ultra vac, it was priced at $499, which was $50 more than the Electrolux at the time. I remember specifically thinking "Sears has shot themselves in the foot".

What vacuums have you seen in movies?

It's a Hoover model 800. One of the giveaways was the orange triangle, along with the rubber around the headlight opening.

    The Ugliest Filter Queen?

Is your Triple Crown the 65th Anniversary Edition? It’s the prettiest model I think they ever made. You have two nice Filter Queens there.

    The Ugliest Filter Queen?

I love mine. I kept one when we were selling them brand new.

    The Ugliest Filter Queen?

Thank you. Filter queen is one of my favorite machines. I sold them for a number of years, I even won a high sales award when they switched over to princess models. I always enjoyed collecting all of the paperwork, literature, and brochures on those machines.

    The Ugliest Filter Queen?

That doesn't make sense. The tan filter queen and the dark brown/chrome model debuted the heat shield in 1978 at the same time. Maybe I am misinterpreting what you wrote.

Does anyone keep this hobby a secret?

I have never kept my fascination with vacuum cleaner as a secret. Not as a child, not as a teenager, and certainly not as an adult. I talk about it. I tell people about it. You wouldn't believe the number of vacuum cleaners I have been given by simply talking about the fact that I collect vacuum...

    The Ugliest Filter Queen?

For their 50th anniversary, the golden jubilee model filter queen added a feature called the "heat shield" which kept the customer from touching the metal top dome. It was always quite warm after the machine had been used. This is my favorite filter queen, although the model 200 from 1939 would...

New Riccar R40.8 failed after two uses

I worked at the factory where they made that machine, for more than 10 years. There were so many problems. All sensors failing during the initial run. Motor is catching on fire on the assembly line. It's just a terrible vacuum cleaner, in my opinion. There are certainly many better choices. I...

(Hypothetically) How does oneself open a vacuum shop?

Brand new filter queens on Amazon are only $1200. And they go on sale from time to time during the year.
